Phoenix Defeats Wofford to Stay Undefeated at Home

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season in home matches with a 6-1 victory against Wofford at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Sunday.

With the win, the Phoenix improves to 7-5 overall this season while the Terriers fall to 4-7. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Daniel Martin and Nicholas Campbell improved to 2-0 on the season playing No. 1 doubles, as the tandem posted Elon's first win of the day by a 6-1 score. 
  • Playing in the No. 3 spot, Nicholas Condos and Ben Zipay clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix with a 6-3 victory. The duo is 6-1 on the season, with five of the wins coming in the No. 3 position. 
  • Zipay picked up Elon's first singles win of the day by a 6-3, 6-2 score on Court 6 against Wofford's Ian Rasheed. The junior is 11-2 in singles and doubles combined this season. 
  • Freshman Veljko Krstic defeated Robbie Young 6-2, 6-1 on Court 3 to improve to 7-3 on the season in singles. All of Krstic's wins are at the No. 3 spot. 
  • Oskar Antinheimo clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph on Court 5 against Alex Horn. The freshman's 6-0 first set was his second career singles set victory by that score. 
  • Shortly after Antinheimo's win, Daniel Martin made it 5-0 for Elon with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 1 position against Ashe Ray. The junior is now 9-3 this season playing No. 1 singles and has a team-high 14 wins across both doubles and singles. 
  • Campbell posted Elon's final point of the day with a 6-1, 6-4 result on Court 2. The senior has won his last three singles matches and six of his last seven.
  • Martin, Campbell, Krstic and Zipay all went 2-0 in singles this weekend in Elon's matches against Hampton and Wofford. 
  • Elon's six-match home winning streak is its longest since a seven-match streak during the 2020-21 season, when the Phoenix won its first nine matches at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
