Elon Season Comes To A Close At William & Mary

Elon, N.C. – The Elon lacrosse team led William & Mary 3-0 after one quarter Saturday but the Tribe, needing a win to stay in the hunt for a CAA Tournament spot, pulled away in the fourth quarter for an 18-7 win. Elon's season ends with a record of 4-12 overall and 0-7 in CAA play. William & Mary's season concludes at 7-9 overall and 2-5 in CAA action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elon jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter behind goals from Cierra Hopson, Hannah McCarthy and Sammy Fisher. McCarthy also assisted on Hopson's goal, giving her two points in the opening period. Anna Hackett and Bridget Kelly added first period assists as well.
  • William & Mary finally got on the scoreboard early in the second but a Kaley Ehnow goal extended the lead again at 4-1.
  • After a pair of goals from The Tribe, McCarthy scored her second goal of the contest to make it 5-3.
  • William & Mary closed the half with three consecutive goals, the last with just four seconds remaining, to take a 6-5 lead into the break.
  • Fisher tied the score early in the third with her second goal but William & Mary went on a 12-1 run to close out the game.
  • Fisher's goal later in the third, on a pass from Hopson, made it 8-7 but The Tribe did not allow another goal.
