Elon Seniors Lift Phoenix into Postseason Play With Victory Over A&T

Elon, N.C.- Seniors Parker Haskin, Liam Dabagian, and Joe Savino sparked the Elon Phoenix (30-20, 17-9 CAA) to a Senior Day victory over the North Carolina A&T Aggies (19-28, 11-17 CAA) Sunday afternoon. With the 9-6 victory, the Phoenix officially clinch a spot in the CAA Championships in Charleston, S.C. beginning on May 24.

Parker Haskin followed up his multi-hit performance yesterday with another this afternoon. Haskin finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored accompanied by four RBI and hit his first home run since a bomb against Army in March of 2022.

Savino and Dabagian were fantastic in relief. The two honored seniors combined for 8.1 innings pitched in relief with Savino earning his fifth win of the season while Dabagian earned his first save of the season with two innings of relief.

How It Happened

  • Before the game began, Elon Baseball honored ten seniors who have done so much for the program both on and off the field. The Phoenix honored nine players including: Parker Haskin, Connor Coolahan, Bryce Jeske, Willie Havens, Liam Dabagian, Joe Savino, Luke Stephenson, Sean O'Connell, and Spencer Bauer. Elon also honored Elon Sports Performance Assistant Hunter Lakey prior to the game for his hard work with the baseball program during his four years at Elon.
  • North Carolina A&T got off to another quick start, as Shemar Dalton and Canyon Brown both knocked a ball over the fence in the top of the first off Ryan Sprock to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead.
  • Elon would bounce back in the bottom half of the frame and Parker Haskin, Charlie Granatell and Cole Reynolds delivered a single, double, and a single respectively to put Elon on the board.
  • A&T would add another run off Joe Savino in the top of the second as Cort Maynard collected an RBI single to restore the Aggies' lead to three.
  • The Phoenix would strike for four runs in the bottom of the second to take their first lead. Parker Haskin would deliver again with an RBI single to right field scoring Kenny Mallory Jr. who singled earlier in the inning. Following a single that hit the center field wall and an RBI walk from Cole Reynolds, Justin Cassella continued his monster week with a two-RBI double down the left field line to give the Phoenix their first lead of the ballgame.
  • A&T would counter once again with two runs of their own with an RBI groundout and RBI double that would put the Aggies into the lead again.
  • Capping off a wild three innings, the Phoenix would draw even again when Parker Haskin collected his second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to score Connor Coolahan.
  • Joe Savino would begin to settle in on the mound and an offense that had been loud for 12 straight innings fell silent for the Aggies with a three-up, three-down inning.
  • Cole Reynolds would put the Phoenix in front again in the bottom of the fourth, capping a seven inning stretch dating back to yesterday's contest where the Phoenix scored in seven straight innings. The solo shot from Reynolds would be his eighth of the season.
  • Savino continued to roll, eventually retiring 12 straight batters, and collecting a season-high eight strikeouts. Savino struck out Tre Williams to complete his afternoon of work and limited the Aggie offense.
  • Parker Haskin capped his career day, with a seventh inning home run which would be the first of the season for the backstop and his first since a battle with Army in March of 2022.
  • Liam Dabagian would close the door on the Aggies in the top of the eighth and ninth allowing a single hit before earning his first save of the season.
