HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
- For the second time this season against the Phoenix, Campbell started fast. In the bottom of the first inning, Campbell jumped out to a two-run lead, courtesy of a Drake Pierson two out, two-run homer.
- Elon would counter in the top of the second inning as Charlie Granatell would serve a two-out double to right field. On the first pitch of his first at-bat, Parker Haskin delivered a sharp, line drive single to right field that would score Granatell on a close play.
- Chandler Riley would answer back in the next frame for the Fighting Camels. The third baseman hit the first of his two home runs to put the lead back to two.
- Spencer Bauer would relieve starter Joe Sprake in the third and get out of a jam with some heads-up defensive plays. Following a leadoff double and a balk, Bauer fielded a groundball and chased after the base runner back to third base, ultimately throwing the runner out on a throw back to Connor Coolahan.
- Campbell would use the long ball again to increase their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Home runs from Drew Winters and Chandler Riley would give the Fighting Camels a four-run lead going into the top of the fifth.
- Both team's pitching staffs would take control beginning in the fifth inning, with no squad collected more than one hit in any frame.
- Elon would attempt to rally in the top of the ninth as Parker Haskin laced his third hit and freshman Ryan Sprock would double him home with a rocket off the left center field wall. Three would be the final deficit as the Fighting Camels took the Wednesday night matchup 5-2.
