How It Happened
Â
- Ryan Sprock and Matthew Shirah both got the ball to start the ball game for the Phoenix and Midshipmen respectively and both put zeros on the scoreboard in the first two frames.
- Navy would use a two-out rally in the bottom of the third to draw first blood against the Phoenix. The Midshipmen would use two singles then a Logan Keller double would bring both runners home to give Navy a two-run lead. Navy would add another run on a Colin Smith single to increase the lead to three.
- Navy would add another three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning by collecting another four hits. Two doubles and two singles would bring three runs across in the inning as Navy increased their lead to six.
- The Phoenix would get two runs back with the first coming from a Connor Coolahan double to score Tanner Holliman, then Parker Haskin would single home Coolahan to trim the lead to four.
- Navy would answer with another run in the bottom of the fifth off a Nick Burch double to bring the lead to five.
- Following a scoreless sixth inning, Elon would get two more runs in the seventh inning thanks to a Connor Coolahan two-run home run down the left field line, clearing the short fence in left without any problem. This is Coolahan's first home run of the season.
- After Navy answered with a run in the seventh, the Phoenix would respond in the top of the eighth with back-to-back doubles from Justin Cassella and Tanner Holliman. Following the RBI double from Holliman no more runs would come across for either side and the Midshipmen would take game two of the two game set, 8-5.
