Matthew McKay has received a camp invitation with the Dallas Cowboys. McKay is the fourth member of the 2022 Elon football team to earn a professional opportunity.
Cole Coleman signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts,
Skyler Davis received a camp invite with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and
Bryson Daughtry has signed with the BC Lions of the CFL.
McKay used his graduate transfer opportunity to join the Elon program for the 2022 season after spending time at Montana State and NC State. He won the starting quarterback job and completed 61.0 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He was one of 30 FCS players named to the CFPA National Performer of the Year Watch List.
McKay had a season-high 333 passing yards at Vanderbilt, going 19-of-32 with four touchdowns. He was 16-of-19 with two touchdowns at Hampton and had 322 passing yards and three touchdowns in a win over Richmond. McKay threw for 312 yards against Towson and had a season-high 85 rushing yards in a win at William & Mary.
Ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in the state of North Carolina out of high school, McKay began his career at NC State and played in 11 games, starting five times in 2019. He threw for 308 yards against East Carolina. McKay transferred to Montana State prior to the 2020 season, a year lost due to COVID-19. He was then named the starting quarterback at Montana State in 2021, leading the team to the FCS playoffs.
