Elon, N.C. - The Elon Phoenix (2-6-3) broke numerous records in a 9-0 thrashing of the Hampton Lady Pirates (0-12). The Phoenix would score five goals in the first 15 minutes to race ahead of the Lady Pirates and never look back. Elon would put in their most dominant performance of the season in the victory and achieving the largest win in the history of Rudd Field.
McKenna Dalfonso registered the 21
st shutout of her career in the victory. This gives Dalfonso the record for shutouts in a career. Dalfonso now has two combined and one solo shutout on the season. Dalfonso breaks a 32-year-old record that was held by Heather Kline since 1991.
The Phoenix offense entered the match with nine goals on the season and would end up doubling their total with nine goals in the match. Three Phoenix players would record multiple goals:
Grace Gelhaus (3),
Jordan Green (2), and
Lydia Totten (2).
Ashlee Brehio recorded five points, three assists and one goal, within the first 12 minutes of the match.
How It Happened
- Elon started off fast in the match with a chance inside the first two minutes when a shot from Jenna Abousaab was blocked away.
- The Phoenix would strike first in the second minute when Jordan Green slid in behind the back line of Hampton and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
- Elon would add another goal and Ashlee Brehio would add another assist to her tally by slotting in Grace Gelhaus who beat Alexis Deveaux at the near post to double the Phoenix lead.
- Lydia Totten would create her first chance of the match, but the chance was snuffed out Deveaux in the ninth minute.
- Totten would find the scoresheet in the 10th minute for the third time in CAA play and Brehio would collect her third assist in the first 10 minutes of the match.
- Brehio would then find the back of the net to bring her point total to five on the night. Jenna Abousaab would collect her first assist and first point of her Elon career.
- The Phoenix would add a fifth goal in the first 15 minutes when a ball in from Emilia Cappellett would put a cross in that took a deflection but would find the head of Grace Gelhaus to put the Phoenix up by five.
- Elon would create a number of chances throughout the rest of the half with both teams committing fouls battling for the ball in the midfield.
- Hampton would collect two yellow cards in the first half in part due to two tough challenges on Elon midfielders.
- The Phoenix would start the half with a fresh lineup and would strike midway through the second frame.
- Katie Lowe would find the back of the net for the second time in her Phoenix career off a set piece that would put Elon ahead by six.
- The Phoenix would strike less than two minutes later when Gelhaus put the bow on a hat trick with a tap in finish following a dropped ball by the Hampton keeper.
- Jordan Green would pick up her second goal of the night with help from teammate Isabelle Paradoski. Paradoski would find a chance at the edge of the six-yard box, but a save from Deveaux would keep the Paradoski chance out. Green would finish the chance with a tap in goal to give Elon eight goals on the night.
- Elon would register a few more chances before scoring the finest goal of the night. A cross from Amy Ollendorff found the left foot of Lydia Totten at the top of the box. Totten would strike the ball on the volley and slot it into the bottom corner for the final goal of the night.
Notes and Stats
- Elon now leads the all-time series with Hampton, 3-0.
- Elon's two largest victories in the Division I era have come against the Lady Pirates with Elon defeating Hampton both 9-0 and 8-0 respectively.
- The nine goals by the Phoenix are the most in the Division I era of the program, topping the previous record of eight which the Phoenix have accomplished twice.
- The nine assists are also a Division I record for the Phoenix.
- Elon has outscored Hampton 19-0 in their three all-time matchups.
- Grace Gelhaus is the first Phoenix to score a trio of goals in a game since Taylor Paradoski secured a hat-trick against Liberty in 2018 in a 5-4 Phoenix win.
- Gelhaus is the first Phoenix freshman to score a hat trick since Meredith Christopher bagged one against North Florida in 2017.
- Ashlee Brehio collected three assists in the match. This is the most in a match for an Elon player in over a decade. The last time a Phoenix had three assists in a match was in 2011 when Bethany Houpt collected three assists against UT-Chattanooga.
- Katie Lowe did not start a match for the second time in her career. Lowe has now appeared in 55 games for Elon and started 53.
- Isabelle Paradoski collected her first career assist, and her first points since the 2021 fall season.
- Amy Ollendorff registered the first point of her career with an assist in the 85th minute on Lydia Totten's goal.
- Jenna Abousaab secured her first point in a Phoenix uniform with a first half assist on the Ashlee Brehio goal. This also marks the first time that both Jenna and Maya Abousaab shared the pitch together in their collegiate careers.
- Gabby Hoschek registered her first career assist which raises her point total on the season to seven.
- Gelhaus and Green both scored their first career goals with Gelhaus now leading the team in points with 9.
- Lydia Totten now leads the team in goals with four all of which have come in CAA play. Totten has four goals in her last four games at Rudd Field.
- Dalfonso earned her first solo shutout of the season. Dalfonso now has five shutouts in the last two years at Rudd Field. This shutout gives her 21 for her career.
- The 29 shots were the most by the Phoenix since Elon's matchup with Hampton a season ago.

- The Phoenix will return to Rudd Field to take on Delaware next Thursday following their bye weekend. Elon will take on Delaware and then Drexel to finish out this three-game home stand.
