ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's basketball team suffered an 84-72 setback against Northeastern on Saturday night, Jan. 20, in a CAA contest at Schar Center.

Max Mackinnon was one of three players who scored in double figures for the Phoenix (8-11, 1-5 CAA), leading the way with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. LA Pratt matched his career-high for the second straight game with 16 points while Nick Dorn contributed with 11.

The Huskies (8-11, 3-3 CAA) had four players lead their offensive attack in double digits with Rashad King posting a game-high 22 points. Harold Woods had 20 off the bench while Masai Troutman added 17. Chris Doherty had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while also falling shy of a triple-double with seven assists.

THE RUNDOWN
• The Huskies opened the game with a 5-0 lead before the Phoenix scored on two straight baskets with Mackinnon bringing Elon within one, 5-4, with 17:08 left in the first half. Northeastern came back with a 10-2 run to take a 15-6 lead.
• Northeastern's advantage would eventually swell to 19-6 after the Huskies scored off a Phoenix turnover at halfcourt. A dunk by King forced a Phoenix timeout with 12:46 left in the opening period.
• Elon's deficit would grow to 15, 22-7, by the second media timeout. A three by Dorn trimmed into the Huskies' lead, but Northeastern kept its hot start to push its lead to 33-14, with 7:38 left in the opening half.
• The Phoenix cut its deficit down to 15 on a Zac Ervin three-pointer with 5:48 left in the first half. The Huskies however would close out the half strong, going into the break with a 46-25 advantage.
• Elon opened the first five-plus minutes of the second half with a 16-9 run to cut its deficit to 14, 55-41, by the first media timeout of the half with 14:56 left on the clock. The Huskies were able to counter to go up by as many as 22, 63-41, after a Doherty jumper with 11:34 left in the game.
• A three-pointer by Troutman put Northeastern ahead by 20, 68-48, with 8:11 left to play. Elon kept fighting however, going on a 15-4 run over the next five minutes, making it a single-digit game, 72-63, after a layup by TK Simpkins with 3:29 left on the clock.
• A pair of free throws by King at the 3:06 mark put the Huskies back ahead by double digits, 74-63. Northeastern would not lose its double-figure lead for the remainder of the game, eventually securing the 84-72 victory.
