Elon will open the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Duke. It will be the second consecutive year in which the Phoenix has played a non-Saturday game against an ACC opponent to open the season. Duke holds an 8-0-1 lead in the all-time series (Elon tied then-Trinity 0-0 in 1921) and most recently posted a 52-13 win in 2014. The Blue Devils went 8-5 in 2023, including a 4-4 mark in ACC play, before Head Coach Mike Elko was hired away by Texas A&M. Former Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Manny Diaz takes over for 2024.

In week two, Elon heads to North Carolina Central for a second consecutive non-conference game against the Eagles. The Sept. 7 match-up will be the 14th meeting between the two schools and Elon holds a 9-4 edge in the series. Last year, NC Central earned a 34-23 win in a game in which both teams were ranked in the FCS Top 25. The Eagles went 9-3 on the season and earned a bid to the FCS playoffs, losing to Richmond in the first round.

Elon's home opener will be Sept. 14 against Western Carolina. That contest will begin a stretch of four consecutive home games (over a five-week stretch with a bye week included) for the first time in the program's FCS era. Elon holds a 24-17-2 edge in the 43-game series but the programs have not squared off since the Catamounts scored late in regulation and kicked an overtime field goal for a 27-24 win in 2013. WCU began the 2023 season by winning five of its first six games and went 7-4 on the campaign.

One week later, Elon will host East Tennessee State on Sept. 21. Elon and ETSU have played three times previously. Elon's only win in the series came in the most recent contest, a 14-0 shutout in 2003. ETSU went 3-8 a year ago but made a coaching change, hiring Gardner-Webb head coach Tre Lamb.

The Phoenix then begins conference play Sept. 28 by hosting Richmond. The most familiar of foes, Elon and Richmond have played five times since 2021 with the Spiders winning three of those contests and holding a 10-5 advantage in the all-time series. Richmond handed Elon a 38-24 defeat in 2023, effectively ending the Phoenix's hopes of a second consecutive FCS playoff bid. The Spiders went on to win an opening round game in the FCS playoffs and went 9-4 on the season, sharing the CAA Football league crown.

Following a bye week, Elon will host New Hampshire on Oct. 12. The Wildcats hold a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series and beat Elon 40-22 in the last meeting in 2022. Elon, though, has won the last two contests against New Hampshire at home, including a 24-10 victory in 2021. UNH went 6-5 in 2023, including a 4-4 record in CAA Football.

Elon finally leaves the state of North Carolina for the first time to face UAlbany on Oct. 19. UAlbany advanced to the FCS semifinals in 2023 and ended the season with a record of 11-4 overall, earning a co-CAA Football title with a mark of 7-1. Elon is 2-1 all-time against UAlbany, most recently recording a 27-3 win in 2022. The home team has won every game of the all-time series.

The Phoenix will leave the state for the final time in the regular season the following week as Elon plays at Hampton Oct. 26. Elon is 2-0 all-time against the Pirates with both meetings coming in the past two seasons, including a 51-14 Phoenix win to close the 2023 regular season. Hampton went 5-6 in 2023 and 3-5 in CAA Football.

On Nov. 2, Elon will host Campbell for Homecoming. The two programs have met just twice, with Elon coming away victorious in both contests, but both games were decided by four points or fewer. In 2023, the Phoenix won 28-24 after a furious Campbell rally almost erased an 18-point fourth quarter Elon lead. Campbell went 5-6 in 2023 and 4-4 in CAA Football play. Braxton Harris was named the head coach of the Camels earlier this month after serving one season as the head coach at Houston Christian.

Elon heads to Williamsburg, Va. the following week to face William & Mary in a contest that is always entertaining. William & Mary leads the all-time series 5-4 but the Phoenix have won two in a row, including a 14-6 victory in 2023. Five of the last six meetings have been decided by eight points or less between the two programs. William & Mary was ranked as high as No. 5 in the country midway through the 2023 season but slumped to a 6-5 overall record and 4-4 in CAA Football play.

Senior Day will take place Nov. 16 as Elon hosts Maine in the final regular season home game of the 2024 season. Maine leads the all-time series 3-2 but Elon posted a victory in the most recent contest, a 33-23 victory at Maine in 2021. The Black Bears went just 2-9 in 2023 with a 1-7 record in CAA Football.

The regular season concludes on Nov. 23 when Elon heads to North Carolina A&T for a Triad rivalry game. The Phoenix beat the Aggies 27-3 in 2023 but North Carolina A&T has won eight of the 13 all-time meetings in the series. In its first year in CAA Football, North Carolina A&T struggled to a 1-10 record in 2023 and an 0-8 league mark.

Elon went 6-5 in 2023 and 6-2 in CAA Football play. The Phoenix is the only program in CAA Football to finish above .500 in league play in each of the past three seasons. Elon has also made Rhodes Stadium a difficult place for opponents, winning ten of the last 11 games at home. The Phoenix is projected to return 15 starters in 2024 (seven on offense and eight on defense). Among the projected returners is second team All-American safety Caleb Curtain and three players who received Freshman All-America honors.
