New Hampshire Rallies To Defeat Elon 17-10

Elon, N.C. – The Elon University Football team jumped out to a 10-0 lead but No. 22 New Hampshire used nine sacks to slow the Phoenix offense and pull out a 17-10 victory. New Hampshire improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in CAA play, while Elon drops to 1-5 and 0-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the first play from scrimmage, Jack Salopek found Chandler Brayboy for a 32-yard completion, which set up Jack Berkowitz for a 41-yard field goal and a 3-0 Elon lead.
  • After a New Hampshire punt, Elon put together a touchdown drive for a 10-0. Brayboy had a 20-yard reception and freshman TJ Thomas Jr. scored from 39 yards out.
  • The score remained 10-0 until New Hampshire blocked a punt in the final 30 seconds of the first half. The Wildcats cashed in for a touchdown to make it 10-7 at the break.
  • In the third quarter, New Hampshire took the lead on a touchdown midway through the period with a four-yard rushing touchdown.
  • The Wildcats added a 38-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for a 17-10 lead.
  • Elon did drive to the New Hampshire 30 with about two minutes to play, but a bad snap followed by a sack ended the Phoenix threat.
 
STATS AND NOTES
  • Chandler Brayboy had five catches for 72 yards, giving him 1,994 career receiving yards.
  • Thomas scored a touchdown for the fifth straight game for the Phoenix and finished with 78 rushing and 57 receiving yards.
  • Senquavious Alsobrooks had a career-high 10 tackles, adding 2.0 for loss and a pass break-up.
  • Josh Johnson had 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
  • Jake Louro recovered the Johnson forced fumble and returned it 39 yards.
  • Dylan Tucker had an interception and returned it 26 yards.
  • Caleb Curtain led Elon with three pass break-ups. He also had a quarterback sack.
  • The Elon defense held New Hampshire to 151 yards of offense, the fewest for a Phoenix opponent this year.
  • Elon was +1 on turnovers for the contest, forcing two and committing just one.
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon will head on the road for the first time in six weeks, playing at UAlbany Saturday at 3:30 p.m. UAlbany is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
