Rising Phoenix: This Week In Elon Athletics

ELON, N.C. – Standing alone atop the CAA women's soccer rankings, the Elon University women's soccer team has officially punched its ticket into the 2024 CAA Tournament over this weekend.

It's the last chance for Elon University students to catch both men's and women's soccer teams regular season games at home this year. The women's team will face Campbell on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. as the men's team takes on Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.

Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.

Women's Golf
The Elon University women's golf team will finish up its fall 2024 season at the beginning of this week in Greenville, South Carolina. The Phoenix is competing in the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford, on Monday, Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 22. At the Edisto Island Invitational, junior Ashley Lafontaine continued her stellar fall campaign with another top-20 performance individually.

Men's Soccer
After a week with two matches on the road, the Elon University men's soccer team will be back at Rudd Field for two more matches at home and its final regular season home match of 2024. The team will host Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. and Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. for its Senior Day.

Women's Soccer
It was another week of winning for the Elon University women's soccer team in two ways – a 2-1 victory over Hofstra and punching its ticket into the 2024 postseason. Currently, the Phoenix stands alone atop the conference with an overall 6-2 record. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Hoschek and junior forward Ashlee Brehio scored the two goals in the victory over Hofstra, their fourth and third on the season, respectively. The Phoenix will host Campbell in its last home game of the 2024 regular season on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

Men's Tennis
It's the first chance to catch the Elon University men's tennis team in action at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this fall. The Phoenix will host the Elon Invitational this weekend with matches beginning on Friday, Oct. 25 and going until Sunday, Oct. 27. At the ITA Regionals, the team picked up four victories – Charles Pilet, Oskar Antinheimo and Jack Curtis picked up singles victories and Jack Curtis and Veljko Krstic earned a victory in doubles. 

Football
On the road at the University at Albany, the Elon University football team earned its first CAA victory of 2024, 30-14. Redshirt senior wide receiver Chandler Brayboy had a historic game, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns. He was named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week and the FCS Stats Perform National Special Teams Player of the Week. Freshman running back TJ Thomas Jr. was also named CAA Rookie of the Week following a 138 yard rushing performance, the third time he has done so this season. The Phoenix will continue its road stretch facing Hampton on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a 2 p.m. kickoff. 

Volleyball
After two matches on the road at Stony Brook, the Elon University volleyball team will be back in Schar Center to take on the Towson Tigers this weekend. At Stony Brook, senior outside hitter Sydney Love paced the Phoenix in kills with 16 and 18 in the two matches. Sophomore middle blocker continued to dominate at the net, logging eight blocks in the first match and five in the second, both of which led the team. Elon and Towson will play on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 with both matches beginning at 2 p.m.
