Men's Tennis To Host Elon Invitational This Weekend

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team is set to kick off the Elon Invitational Friday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center for the team's lone home tournament of the fall season.
 
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
  • The Invitational will begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the first 12 rounds of doubles. Saturday's matches will begin at 9 a.m. The final day of play will begin Sunday at 9 a.m.
  • Friday's matches will include two rounds of doubles matches and one round of singles matches. Saturday there will be two rounds of singles, and Sunday there will be one round of singles matches with the final round of doubles matches. 
  • Live scoring will not be available, but results will be provided daily after play. 
  • Admission to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center is free. 
  • There will be 12 other teams competing in the competition including Georgia State, ETSU, Richmond, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, South Carolina State, Charlotte, Furman, NC A&T, NC Central, Norfolk State, and Campbell.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is coming off a 16-8 season and its third consecutive appearance in the CAA championship match. 
  • The Phoenix returns one senior, Juan Sengariz. Sengariz held a 16-6 singles record last year and a doubles record of 10-9. Sengariz took home the titles of 2024 All-CAA Second Team - Doubles, CAA Player of the Week, and CAA Doubles Team of the Week (twice) during the 2024 season. 
  • The other returners for the Phoenix are juniors Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic, while sophomores Jack Curtis and Alonso Roca are also returning this season. 
  • Elon welcomes one newcomer in 2024 – Charles Pilet – who is the Phoenix's lone freshman for the fall season. 
  • Elon is led by head coach Maciek Sykut, who is in his first season with Elon. Sykut joins the Phoenix after spending four years at Duke where he led the Blue Devils to 71 wins and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
