HOW IT HAPPENED

Elon only allowed two more Hampton points and cruised to win set one 25-12 capped by a kill from Caroline Berlekamp.

Out of the break, the teams traded points and later a 3-0 run from the Phoenix saw their lead to nine at 16-7 midway through the frame. Hampton won eight of the next 12 points to cut the Elon lead to five at 20-15. The teams traded points before a 4-0 run from Elon, thanks to a block from Love and Berlekamp and kills from Berlekamp, Keira Kasten and Love, closed set two with Elon on top 25-16.
  • Elon led 5-2 early in set three but Hampton eventually knotted the score at 7-7. The Phoenix won six of the next eight points thanks to two service aces from Shannon O'Laughlin and blocks from Berlekamp, Harris, and Cameron Lanier to pull ahead 13-9. Hampton quickly cut the lead to two at 14-12 but three straight points from the Phoenix saw them out in from 17-12.
