Preston’s Double-Double Not Enough As Elon Falls At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. —  Raven Preston notched her first double-double of the 2024-25 season, leading the Elon women's basketball team with 12 points and 14 rebounds in their 65-56 road loss to Marshall on Wednesday night.
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon jumped to a 5-2 lead against Marshall with a jumper from Kamryn Doty and an and-one from Iycez Adams. The Herd quickly answered to go up 8-7, but Elon reclaimed a 10-8 advantage. Marshall then connected on three consecutive three-pointers, pulling ahead 17-10. Maraja Pass responded with two jumpers to close the quarter, leaving Elon down 19-15.
  • Marshall opened the second quarter with two quick baskets, but the Phoenix narrowed the gap back to four at 23-19 after a jumper from Raven Preston and two free throws from Iycez Adams. Both teams traded baskets as Elon held Marshall's lead to five, with back-to-back buckets from Alyssa Ervin bringing the score to 30-25. However, Marshall added a late basket with eight seconds left, taking a 32-25 lead into halftime.
  • The Herd opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run, extending their lead to 40-25. Elon responded with a 9-1 run to narrow the gap to 41-34. After each team added a basket, Marshall closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, leading 50-36 going into the final 10 minutes.
  • In the fourth quarter, Raven Preston scored five consecutive points to bring Elon within 10 at 50-40, and a three-pointer from Samira Khalil further closed the gap, putting the Phoenix within single digits at 50-43. Marshall pushed their lead back to double digits at 54-44, but Elon responded with an 8-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from Regina Walton, bringing the Phoenix within four at 56-52. The teams went back and forth in the final minutes, but a three-pointer from the Herd with 46 seconds left extended their lead to 63-54. Free-throws later sealed the advantage for Marshall with Elon falling 65-56.

  • The maroon and gold return home Saturday, November 16, as the Phoenix welcome Kent State to Schar Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
