Love Eclipses 1,000 Elon Kills In Team's Loss At North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University Volleyball team fell to North Carolina A&T and with 11 kills, Sydney Love eclipsed 1,000 kills in her Elon career.

Elon 0, North Carolina A&T 3 (23-25, 23-25, 23-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elon fell behind 5-1 early in set one, but out of the timeout, the Phoenix responded with a 5-1 run to knot the score at 6-6. The teams traded points before North Carolina A&T won three straight points to pull ahead 13-9. Elon worked to get within two at 16-14 and a kill from Sydney Love followed by a block from Love and Kyla Johnson put the Phoenix down one at 18-17. A kill from Johnson later tied the score at 20-20 before the teams went back-and-forth. With the score tied at 22-22, the Aggies went on a 3-1 run to seal set one 25-23.
  • Elon got out to a quick 3-1 lead, but the Aggies went on a 9-1 run to go up 10-4. The teams went back and forth, and an Annabelle Schall ace put Elon down four at 15-11. Again, the teams traded points, before Elon went on a 3-0 run thanks to kills from Caroline Berlekamp and Harris and a North Carolina A&T error to get within three at 20-17. The Aggies took a point before Elon won four straight points to gain a one-point lead at 21-20. With the score tied at 22-22, Elon would only rally off one more point as the Aggies took set two 25-23.
  • The teams battled to start set three as no team led by more than two points until the Aggies went on a 4-0 run to lead 13-9. Out of a timeout, Elon won five straight points to gain a one-point advantage at 14-13 before the teams traded points. With the score tied 16-16, Elon went on a 3-1 run to pull ahead 19-17. Again, it was a back-and-forth battle as Elon led 23-21 late in the frame, but the Aggies went on a 3-0 run to go up one and earn match point at 24-23 and take set three 25-23.
