Richmond, Va. – Elon University redshirt junior Caleb Curtain has been named the winner of the Coastal Athletic Association's Chuck Boone Leadership and Excellence Award, presented annually to one football student-athlete within the CAA who embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship in academics and athletics.
 
Curtain maintains a 3.24 grade point average as a marketing major and will graduate in December in just three-and-a-half years. He impacts the campus community as the president of the Sigma Mu chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is also on Elon's executive board of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which governs all campus historically African-American fraternities and sororities. Curtain plans and executes all fraternity service activities from Special Olympics to a "get out the vote" campaign.
 
On the field of competition, Curtain is a team captain and Second Team All-American in 2023. He was also named First Team All-CAA and earned the Stein H. Basnight Award as the top male athlete at Elon University. This year, he led the team with 75 tackles, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. He had an interception against Duke in the season opener and added a critical interception in a win over Maine.
 
Curtain had two double-digit tackle games with 12 against Campbell and 11 against Richmond. He had 1.5 tackles for loss at Hampton and three pass break-ups and a quarterback sack against New Hampshire.
 
Curtain is Elon's second winner of the Chuck Boone Leadership and Excellence Award, joining Davis Cheek, who was named the recipient of the award in 2021.
