Richmond, Va. – Senior wide receiver/kick returner
Chandler Brayboy was named CAA Special Teams Player of the Year and nine members of the Elon Football team were recognized on All-CAA voting, as announced by the league today.
Along with being named Special Teams Player of the Year, Brayboy was named first team all-conference at both wide receiver and kick returner. Offensive lineman
Kevin Burkett, safety
Caleb Curtain and punter
Jeff Yurk were also recognized on the first team.
Defensive lineman
Cazeem Moore and specialist Tony Hart were each named second team All-CAA, while defensive lineman
Josh Johnson was third team all-conference. Running back
Rushawn Baker and fullback/tight end
Dylan Magazu earned honorable mention status.
Brayboy ranks No. 2 nationally in kick return average at 35.3 yards per return. He had two kickoff returns for touchdowns this year as well. He leads the CAA (and ranks No. 5 nationally) in all-purpose yards (151.4 per game) and was third in receiving yards per game at 89.0. He also ranked in the top five in the CAA in receiving touchdowns (8), receptions per game (5.4) and yards per reception (16.6).
In CAA only play, he ranked first in the league with 826 receiving yards and second with 47 receptions. He also had 174.9 all-purpose yards per game, more than 25 yards per game more than anyone else in the conference. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranks him tied for first in all of FCS in return rating and third in kick return rating.
Burkett, a four-year starting offensive lineman for the Phoenix, was also named first team all-conference. PFF rates him as the No. 1 pass blocking lineman in FCS. He also helped pave the way for
Rushawn Baker and
TJ Thomas Jr. to each have over 500 rushing yards. That duo combined for seven 100-yard rushing games in 2024.
Curtain, who returned to Elon following a second team All-American season a year ago, was first team all-conference at safety. He led Elon with 75 tackles, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. Curtain also had four tackles for loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks. He had a critical interception in a win over Maine in the end zone and also had an interception against Duke, his second year in a row picking off a pass against an ACC team.
Yurk was named first team all-conference punter after the most dominant season in program history. He leads FCS at 47.9 yards per punt, an average that ranks third across all levels of the NCAA. A total of 26 of his 60 punts were at least 50 yards, including a career-long 72-yarder. He had 19 punts inside the 20 and just four touchbacks. Yurk had four games in which he averaged over 50.0 yards per punt, including 52.8 yards across six punts against Western Carolina. PFF ranks him as the No. 3 punter in FCS and No. 5 in net punting.
Moore was a dominant force on the defensive line and earned second team All-CAA honors for his efforts. He led Elon with 12.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 quarterback sacks, as well as three forced fumbles. He ranks in the top 10 in the CAA in all three of those categories. Moore added a career-best 51 tackles on the season.
Hart earned second team All-CAA honors as a specialist. He recorded 21 tackles on the season, with 12 of those coming on special teams, the most in the country according to PFF. Hart had a career-best five tackles against Campbell and had at least two tackles in each of the final four games of the season.
Johnson was named third team All-CAA after posting 35 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 3.0 sacks and two fumble recoveries. His two fumble recoveries were third in the CAA. He twice had five tackles in a game and had 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble against New Hampshire. He was a menace against Western Carolina with three quarterback hurries.
Baker earned honorable mention status at running back after rushing for 859 yards and a 4.7 yard per carry average in 2024. Over the final four games of the season, he totaled 583 yards, going over 100 yards in each of them and over 150 three times. He carried the ball at least 22 times in each of those games and his 5.4 yards per carry average in CAA play was the highest among backs with at least 130 carries.
Magazu was named honorable mention as a consistent presence in the fullback/tight end role for the Phoenix. He had 10 catches for 72 yards and caught a touchdown against Campbell. Magazu added four tackles as well. In that game against Campbell, he had a career-best four receptions. He also had two catches against Duke to open the 2024 season.
