Mallory Jr., Berry Homer In Loss To High Point

High Point, N.C.- Both Kenny Mallory Jr. and Adam Berry homered in Elon's (7-9) loss to High Point, Tuesday night. Mallory hit his second grand slam of the season while Berry hit his first home run of the 2024 season in the 11-7 loss to High Point (6-11).
 
Tristan Corcoran was a bright spot on the mound for the Phoenix. Corcoran went two innings and allowed just one hit and no runs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • High Point got out to a three-run lead in the first inning using two extra-base hits with a triple and groundout scoring the final two runs of the inning.
  • The Panthers put up five more runs in the bottom of the third, jumping out to an 8-0 lead on the Phoenix.
  • Elon answered with four runs in the top of the fourth thanks to a grand slam from Kenny Mallory Jr. This was Mallory's second grand slam of the year and Elon's fifth as a team.
  • High Point added a run an inning from innings four through six to expand their lead to seven.
  • The Phoenix chipped away thanks to an Adam Berry three-run home run in the top of the eighth to shrink the lead back to four.
  • No runs would come across for either team in the eighth or ninth and the game would end by the final score of 11-7.
NOTES AND STATS
  • Carson Wehner made his first career start on the mound for the Phoenix.
  • Tristan Corcoran made his first relief appearance of the season and allowed just one hit over two innings of work.
  • Liam Dabagian went 2.1 innings while allowing just one earned run in the 12 batters he faced.
  • Kenny Mallory Jr. hit his third home run of the season, tying the club high with Ryan Sprock and Connor Offshack. Mallory Jr. also hit his second grand slam of the season.
  • Adam Berry hit his first home run of the season and his first since Elon's Saturday win over William & Mary last season.
  • Will Vergantino had the lone multi-hit game for the Phoenix, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored on the night.
  • The Phoenix have now hit five grand slams as a team in the first 16 games including four at Latham Park.

  • Elon will head back to Latham Park for a three-game, weekend series against Minnesota. First pitch Friday will be at 4 PM.
