DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team won three final sets in singles to survive a valiant effort from Davidson on Saturday, as the Phoenix defeated the Wildcats 6-1 for its first road victory of the season.

With the win, Elon has now won six consecutive matches and is 7-4 on the season, while Davidson fell to 5-4 with the loss.
THE RUNDOWN
- Elon picked up its first doubles point in a road match this season with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
- Freshmen Simone Bergeron and Ella Suk continued their winning ways at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-2 for Elon's first victory of the day. The duo is now 6-1 together this season playing the No. 3 spot and is 36-10 in total games in the six victories.
- After Davidson leveled doubles with a win at the No. 1 spot, Madison Cordisco and Mariana Reding clinched doubles for the Phoenix with a 6-3 win on Court 2. The duo trailed 3-0 but won the final six games for their team-best seventh win of the season.
- Elon has now won the doubles point in seven of its last eight matches, losing just four contests in that span.
- Bergeron improved to 3-0 on the season at the No. 6 spot to kick off singles, as she defeated Davidson's Linden Patterson 6-1, 6-2. The freshman is 6-0 in singles sets this season and has not lost more than two games in any of them.
- Sibel Tanik put a third point on the board for the maroon and gold with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph on Court 1 against Emma Heiderscheit. It was the 44th victory of her Elon career and her fifth this season at the No. 1 spot.
- On Court 2, Lizette Reding recovered after losing her second set to beat Savanna Kollock 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to secure the winning point for Elon. Reding trailed 4-3 in the final set but won the final three games to cap off the victory. It was the 45th singles victory of her career.
- From a set down on Court 5, Helen Sarikulaya rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory against Bryson Langford. This was the sophomore's second win this season in a final set and the second time in her career she has come from a set behind to win in singles. She has now won five straight matches playing three different positions.
- In the final match to finish, Mariana Reding outlasted Daniela Porges 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5 at No. 3 singles for her team-best eighth win of the season. Reding has won six straight singles decisions, with the last three coming at the No. 3 spot.
- This was the fourth time this season Elon won at least five singles matches.
- The last time Elon won at least three singles matches in full final sets came on Feb. 3, 2023, against UNC Greensboro, when the Phoenix also won three in a 6-1 victory.
- The victory was Elon's second in its last five trips to Davidson.
UP NEXT
Elon will return home to face Fairfield at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on March 5. The contest will start at 2 p.m. Originally scheduled for March 6, the match was moved up a day due to forecasted rain.
