Phoenix, Camels Clash This Weekend at Hunt Softball Park

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team hosts Campbell in a CAA series this weekend at Hunt Softball Park in the first league set for the two teams. The Phoenix (9-18, 3-3 CAA) and the Camels (12-14-1, 4-2 CAA) begin the series with a contest on Friday morning, March 22, at 11 a.m. at Hunt Softball Park.
 
Due to expected inclement weather this weekend, Saturday's single game has been canceled. The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon, March 24, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

SERIES BREAKDOWN
• This weekend is the first-ever series between the two teams as CAA foes as Campbell is in its first foray in the league. The Camels lead the all-time series over the Phoenix, 26-11-1, going back to 1993 in Elon's fastpitch era (since 1990).
• The two teams last played in 2019 at Elon with the Camels coming away with a 6-2 win over the Phoenix. Elon however has won three of the past five meetings versus its intrastate rival with wins coming in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix posted its best offensive output of the season in its contest versus North Carolina Central on Tuesday, March 19, as Elon defeated the Eagles 13-0 in five innings.
• Elon opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first before plating seven runs in the home half of the third. The Phoenix added three more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth before closing out the game in the next inning.
• Four players had two base hits for the Phoenix in the game, who tallied nine base knocks total. Kaitlyn Wells, Ella Roberson, Allee Seering and Gabi Schaal all had multi-hit efforts for the Phoenix. Schaal led the maroon and gold with four RBI while Seering added three to her stat line along with a home run. Schaal and Wells also had extra-base hits for Elon with a double each.
• With the win, Elon improved to 19-0 all-time versus N.C. Central, in a series going back to 2011.
 
WALK THIS WAY
• Fifth-year Megan Grant became the program's all-time career leader in walks at the Division I level after drawing her 101st free pass at UNCW last Saturday. The Vinton, Va., native broke Ally Repko's '21 school mark and has 102 walks in her career so far.
 
AROUND THE HORN
• Elon heads into the series 9-18 overall with a 3-3 ledger in CAA play so far this season. The Phoenix's league ledger is tied for sixth overall in the standings going into the third weekend of CAA play.
• The Phoenix's offense is hitting .235 overall as a team while also scoring 118 runs with 13 homers and 106 RBI. Elon has posted a .363 slugging percentage with a .320 on-base percentage.
• Mauri Murray paces the squad with her .329 average along with her five homers. The Marvin, N.C., native ranks in the top 10 of the CAA in slugging percentage (.600), OPS (.997), RBI (19) and home runs.
• Seering is in the top 10 of the league in runs scored (18), RBI (24), doubles (six) and triples (three). The Waxhaw, N.C., native leads the Phoenix with nine multi-RBI games this season including a season-best four versus N.C. A&T on Sunday, March 10.
• The Phoenix is tied for the CAA-lead in triples with nine with three players – Seering, Kaitlyn Wells (3) and Megan Grant (2) – ranking in the top three in the league, respectively. Elon as a team ranks 25th overall in the country in triples per game (0.33) while Seering and Wells are 24th overall in the nation.
• Drew Menscer has stolen 10-of-12 bases on the season for the Phoenix and is tied for third in the league in bags swiped. As a team, Elon has stolen 32-of-36 bases this season, good for fourth overall in the CAA.
• McKenna McCard leads the Phoenix in the circle with a 3.48 ERA in 50.1 innings of action. The junior is 3-3 on the year and has 41 strikeouts to her name.
 
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
• The Camels are 12-14-1 on the season with a 4-2 mark in its first season in the CAA. Campbell is coming off its series versus Towson last weekend at home with the Tigers taking two out of three against the hosts.
• Campbell is batting .264 offensively with 91 runs scored along with six homers and 79 RBI. The Camels have posted a .343 slugging percentage with a .331 on-base percentage.
• Three players in the Camels' regular lineup are hitting better than .300 in Lindsay Lumsden (.355), Makayla McClain (.321) and Tyra Parker (.313). Lumsden and McClain are tied for the team-lead with two homers while Alyssa Henault has a team-best 11 RBI.
• In the circle, Campbell has a cumulative ERA of 2.83 in its 183.0 innings of action. Ace Isabella Smith leads the team in ERA (2.54), wins (eight), saves (one), innings (71.2) and strikeouts (87). The Raleigh native is holding opponents to a .223 batting average and is 24th overall in the nation in strikeouts.
 
THIS IS ELON SOFTBALL!!
• Elon head coach Kathy Bocock earned her 300th career win with the program with the Phoenix's victory over North Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 17. Bocock, who became the Phoenix's all-time career wins leader last season, is the only coach in school history with 300 or more wins at the school.
• Among her highlights during Bocock's 12 seasons leading the Elon softball program include her taking the Phoenix to the CAA title game in two of the last four seasons, earning wins versus top-10 nation teams like Georgia (twice) and James Madison and coaching the lone two All-Americans in school history (Tomeka Watson '13 and Kara Shutt '16).

Elon heads to Greensville, N.C., next Tuesday, March 26, for a matchup at East Carolina. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
