No. 14 Stony Brook Pulls Away From Phoenix

Stony Brook, N.C. – The Elon University lacrosse team played even with No. 14 Stony Brook throughout most of the first half but the Seawolves pulled away for a 18-6 CAA victory Friday night. With the win, Stony Brook improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Elon falls to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elon and Stony Brook split the first ten goals of the game and neither team led by more than one goal until the Seawolves went on a late first half run.
  • Sammy Fisher started the game's scoring on a pass from Cierra Hopson to put Elon ahead quickly in the first quarter.
  • After Stony Brook scored back-to-back goals, Elon answered with a Mia Zebley free position goal to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Hopson scored with 1:05 to play in the first quarter on an assist from Kaitlyn Michaud. That goal sent the game into the first intermission tied at 3-3.
  • Bridget Kelly scored on a loose ball to open the second period as Elon went ahead 4-3.
  • After Stony Brook took a 5-4 lead, the Phoenix tied the score once more as Mackenzie Coleman ripped home a free position shot.
  • Stony Brook scored the final three goals of the first half for an 8-5 lead.
  • Coleman scored her second goal of the game on the opening possession of the second half to bring Elon within two at 8-6, but Stony Brook then scored 10 straight for the 18-6 win.

  • Elon will remain in New York to play at Hofstra Sunday at noon. Hofstra is 5-4 overall and 2-0 in CAA play.
