ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team continues its road swing this week at College of Charleston as the Phoenix (10-21, 4-5 CAA) faces the Cougars (8-19, 2-7 CAA) in a three-game set beginning on Thursday, March 28, at the Patriots Point Complex.
The series begins with a single game on Thursday, March 28, at 5 p.m. followed by single games on Friday and Saturday also at 1 p.m.

SERIES BREAKDOWN
• In a series dating back to 1999 in the Phoenix's fastpitch era, Elon and College of Charleston are deadlocked at 34-34 all-time on the softball diamond. Since becoming CAA opponents in 2015, the Phoenix is 19-10 versus the Cougars.
• Both teams met last season in a series that was reduced to two games due to weather. Elon took the opening contest, 8-0, behind a combined no-hitter from
McKenna McCard and
Kaitlin King, before suffering a 9-1 setback in the second game.
• This week will be the first series of games at CofC since 2021. Elon has won five of the past six meetings at Patriots Point including a series sweep versus the Cougars in 2021.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix began its current five-game road swing at intrastate rival East Carolina on Tuesday, March 26. Elon would ultimately fall to the Pirates, 9-1, in six innings.

Kaitlyn Wells would score the lone run of the game for the Phoenix as the Roswell, Ga., native connected on her first homer of the season. Wells' homer was one of the Phoenix's three hits in the game with
Allee Seering going 2-of-2 at the dish with a double to her stat line.
• The win was the fourth straight for ECU over Elon while expanding its all-time ledger over the Phoenix to 19-7-1.

Gabi Schaal connected on her 20
th career home run on Sunday against the Camels. The Lakeland, Fla., native ranks ninth all-time in program history in career home runs and is second on the team this season with four round trippers.
AROUND THE HORN
• The Phoenix's offense is hitting .239 overall as a team while also scoring 130 runs with 16 homers and 118 RBI. Elon has posted a .368 slugging percentage with a .327 on-base percentage.

Mauri Murray paces the squad with her .321 average along with her five homers. The Marvin, N.C., native ranks in the top 10 of the CAA in slugging percentage (.556), OPS (.945), RBI (19) and home runs.
• Seering is in the top 10 of the league in runs scored (19), RBI (24), doubles (seven) and triples (three). The Waxhaw, N.C., native leads the Phoenix with nine multi-RBI games this season including a season-best four versus N.C. A&T on Sunday, March 10.
• The Phoenix is tied for the CAA-lead in triples with nine with three players – Seering,
Kaitlyn Wells (3) and
Megan Grant (2) – ranking in the top three in the league, respectively. Elon as a team ranks 25
th overall in the country in triples per game (0.33) while Seering and Wells are 24
th overall in the nation.

Drew Menscer has stolen 10-of-12 bases on the season for the Phoenix to lead the squad. As a team, Elon has stolen 36-of-40 bases this season, good for fourth overall in the CAA.

McKenna McCard leads the Phoenix in the circle with a 3.07 ERA in 59.1 innings of action. The junior is 4-4 on the year and has 45 strikeouts to her name.
Taylor Cherry is second on the team with 40.1 innings pitched with a 3.99 ERA and 25 strikeouts.
SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
• The Cougars are 8-19 on the year while posting a 2-7 ledger so far in the CAA. CofC fell in its last series at Hampton with the Pirates taking two of three versus the Cougars.
• Charleston is coming off a 19-32 record a year ago and went 11-12 in the league standings, earning a CAA postseason berth. The Cougars were tabbed to finish eighth in the 2024 CAA Preseason Poll.
• The Cougars are slashing .259/.345/.343 as a team while scoring 113 runs with seven home runs and 93 RBI. Graduate student Brooke Marquez is the lone player in CofC's lineup hitting over .300 with her .310 average. She is also tied for the team-lead in homers with two along with junior Malaka Belser. Belser and Halle Cannon are tied for the team-lead with 17 RBI each.
• In the circle, the Cougars have a 4.02 team ERA in 182.2 innings of action while striking out 72 batters compared to 102 walks. Fifth-year Peyton Lemire leads the team in innings (66.0), ERA (3.50) and wins (four). Senior McKenna Kelly is second to Lemire in innings (63.0), ERA (3.67) and wins (three) while leading the team with 30 strikeouts.

• Elon head coach
Kathy Bocock earned her 300
th career win with the program with the Phoenix's victory over North Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 17. Bocock, who became the Phoenix's all-time career wins leader last season, is the only coach in school history with 300 or more wins at the school.
• Among her highlights during Bocock's 12 seasons leading the Elon softball program include her taking the Phoenix to the CAA title game in two of the last four seasons, earning wins versus top-10 nation teams like Georgia (twice) and James Madison and coaching the lone two All-Americans in school history (Tomeka Watson '13 and Kara Shutt '16).
