ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team defeated Fairfield 7-0 on Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center to remain unblemished on the season at home.

With the victory, Elon improved to 7-4 on the season and 6-0 at home. Fairfield fell to 3-6 with the loss.
THE RUNDOWN
- The Phoenix won its seventh doubles point in the last eight matches to take an early 1-0 advantage.
- Oskar Antinheimo and Jack Curtis continued their impressive run in doubles this season, as the duo won 6-1 at the No. 3 spot for their team-best seventh victory. All seven of their wins this season have come by 6-1, 6-2 or 6-3 scores.
- Playing together for the third time this season, Daniel Martin and Veljko Krstic clinched doubles for the Phoenix with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. In its last two appearances, the tandem has gone 12-1 in total games.
- On Court 1, Ben Zipay and Juan Sengariz held a 5-2 lead when their match was abandoned. Zipay faced former doubles partner Nick Condos, who won 41 doubles matches with Elon from 2020-23 and was an All-CAA Third Team selection in doubles with Zipay last season.
- Elon has won all six of its doubles points at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season and is 14-1 in completed contests in those matches.
- Sengariz kicked off singles with a timely 6-1, 6-1 victory over Fairfield's Alex Aguiar on Court 4. It was his fifth victory of the season, all of which have come at the No. 4 spot. It tied the fewest number of games he has dropped in a singles victory with the Phoenix, matching his 6-0, 6-2 win against South Carolina State on Feb. 13.
- Back at the No. 2 singles position, Martin dispatched Sam Hodges 6-1, 6-1 for his fourth victory of the season. Three of Martin's four wins have come at the No. 2 spot.
- Curtis returned to the win column in singles in the next match to finish on Court 5, as the freshman was triumphant in a 6-2, 6-2 result against Kostas Kollias. Curtis is tied with Krstic for the second most singles wins on the team this season (7) and is a perfect 4-0 playing the No. 5 spot. He is also a perfect 12-0 across doubles and singles at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season
- Shortly after Curtis won his match, Krstic replied in kind with a 6-1, 6-2 win playing No. 1 singles against Thomas Smart. The sophomore has won four of his last five singles appearances, with the lone loss coming against a ranked singles opponent versus then No. 20 North Carolina State on Feb. 25. All four of those wins have come in straight sets.
- Playing his former teammate Condos on Court 3, Antinheimo won 6-0, 6-4 for his team-best eighth victory of the season. The sophomore is 6-2 playing the No. 3 position and is 6-0 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Zipay picked up his third singles win of the season with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 decision over Griffin Schlesinger on Court 6. It was the third win of his career in a match tiebreak and the first since Feb. 17, 2022.
- The sweep was Elon's third this season and second via a 7-0 score.
- The Phoenix is 30-5 this season in completed singles matches at home.
- This is the second straight season Elon has started at least 6-0 at home, as the Phoenix won its first seven home matches last season.
UP NEXT
Elon travels to South Carolina for a weekend pair on March 9 and 10. The Phoenix will face Wofford on Saturday at 1 p.m. before taking on Presbyterian on Sunday at 1 p.m.
