Sprock, Offshack Powers Elon Over Longwood

Elon, N.C.- Sophomore Ryan Sprock delivered the first four-hit game of his Elon career to help lift the Elon Phoenix (5-7) over the Longwood Lancers (7-5) Tuesday night.  
 
The Phoenix found themselves in a 5-0 hole before two separate four-run innings lifted Elon passed the Lancers, 11-6 at Latham Park.
 
Sprock finished four-for-four with a grand slam to give the Phoenix the lead in the sixth inning. Captain Connor Offshack also delivered with four RBIs to give the Phoenix needed insurance runs to close out Longwood.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Elon fell into an early 1-0 hole following an RBI groundout from the Lancers.
  • Longwood would answer with three runs in the second inning following an RBI hit by pitch and two RBI walks.
  • A Lancer double in the third would extend Longwood lead to 5-0.
  • Elon would get on the board thanks to a Connor Offshack RBI double in the bottom of the third. Tanner Holliman would bring home another run in the third with an RBI groundout.
  • Longwood countered in the fifth with another run scored on an RBI single that landed in shallow right field.
  • Elon got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Offshack reached on an error that scored James Broderick.
  • The Phoenix took their first lead in the bottom of the sixth with their fourth grand slam of the year at Latham Park. Ryan Sprock took a fastball to dead center field, off the batter's eye.
  • Alex Duffey added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to deep left field.
  • Offshack blew the game open with a three-run double in the seventh inning to add another crooked number to the scoreboard and give the Phoenix a five-run lead.
  • Sprock and Sam Nomura would slam the door out of the bullpen with two clean innings of work with three strikeouts between the pair to seal the Elon victory.
 
NOTES AND STATS
 
  • Liam Dabagian made his second midweek start in a row on Tuesday.
  • Ryan Sprock had a career day at the plate, finishing four-for-four with four runs scored and four RBIs. The grand slam was the first of Sprock's career and his 21 RBI are still the conference's high mark.
  • Connor Offshack drove in four runs, bringing his RBI count to 16. Offshack finished with two hits, both being doubles.
  • Charlie Granatell registered another double bringing his total to nine on the year. Granatell reached base four times and scored three runs.
  • Kenny Mallory Jr. registered another hit, bringing his total on the young season to 20.
  • James Broderick finished with a multi-hit day, completing his afternoon two-for-three with two singles, two walks and a run scored.
  • Christo Garrelts earned the first win of his Phoenix career with three scoreless innings of relief. Garrelts struck out three while walking none.
  • Sam Nomura continues to pitch well at the back half of the bullpen, throwing a clean ninth inning with a strikeout.
  • Ryan Sprock struck out two on the mound while also keeping a clean eighth inning.
 
 
UP NEXT
 
  • The Phoenix return to Latham Park for a three-game weekend series against the UMASS Minutemen. First pitch on Friday will be at 4 pm.
