Fattore Brings Home Four In Loss to Northeastern

Brookline, Mass.- The Elon Phoenix (17-24, 6-10 CAA) got four RBIs from freshman center fielder Vince Fattore, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern Huskies (29-11, 11-5 CAA) took game one, 11-5 Friday afternoon.

Fattore drove in four runs for the Phoenix on Friday, three of which came on a three-run home run in the second inning. Nolan Straniero got the start for the Phoenix and exited after four innings with four strikeouts. Connor Offshack and James Broderick both had multi-hit days in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Northeastern would score on an RBI groundout in the first inning to grab the 1-0 lead.
  • In the top of the second, following a single from Broderick and a walk from Will Vergantino, Vince Fattore slammed a ball that hugged the left field line and over the foul pole for a three-run home run to grab the lead for the Phoenix in the second inning.
  • The Huskies would answer with a two-run single in the bottom half of the second to tie the game at three going into the third.
  • Straniero would settle in in the third inning forcing a double play after two runners reached with no outs then struck out the final batter to get out of the jam.
  • Northeastern loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but Straniero struck out the cleanup batter to retire the side with no runs coming across.
  • Elon grabbed the lead back in the fifth with an RBI, bases loaded walk from Vince Fattore to collect his fourth RBI of the day.
  • The Huskies tied the score in the fifth with another RBI groundout to tie the score at four after five innings.
  • The Huskies grabbed the lead in the sixth and didn't look back with a run in the sixth inning and then four runs in the seventh inning to grab control of the ballgame.
  • The home side put up two runs in the eighth inning before Lawson Wheeler brought in a run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final tally to 11-5.
