Brookline, Mass.- The Elon Phoenix (17-26, 6-12 CAA) got out to an early 2-0 lead against the Northeastern Huskies (31-11, 13-5 CAA), but came up short in a 13-2 loss Sunday afternoon.
The Phoenix received early production from the combination of
Charlie Granatell and
Kenny Mallory Jr. who both finished with a base knock in Sunday's loss to the Huskies.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Within the first two batters of the game, Elon grabbed the lead. Following a leadoff ground rule double from Kenny Mallory Jr., Charlie Granatell sent a line drive into the left center field gap to score Mallory from third.
- The Phoenix added to its lead in the top of the second following a clean frame on the mound from Ryan Sprock. After back-to-back singles from Will Vergantino and Justin Szestowicki, Tank Yaghoubi grounded a ball to the shortstop which allowed Vergantino to score from third.
- Northeastern grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second following a barrage of hits to take a 3-2 lead.
- The Huskies blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs in the inning.
- The Huskies added another run in the fifth and two in the seventh to finish the Phoenix off, 13-2 winners.
NOTES AND STATS
- Sprock made another Sunday start on the mound for the Phoenix. He went 3.1 innings and struck out two batters.
- Nine different Phoenix recorded a hit, with nine players tallying a single hit.
- Kenny Mallory Jr. had the lone extra-base hit with a leadoff double in the first inning.
- Charlie Granatell and Tank Yaghoubi both tallied an RBI in the loss.
- Elon now trails the all-time series with the Huskies, 16-13.
