Greenville, N.C.- The Elon Phoenix (11-21) dropped their final midweek road contest to the East Carolina Pirates (24-7) Tuesday night. The Pirates took the season series against the Phoenix, taking a 12-0 victory over Elon.
 
Christo Garrelts was a bright spot out of the bullpen for the Phoenix. Garrelts pitched the final two innings of the contest, allowing no hits or walks to the East Carolina hitters.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• East Carolina got on the board early with three runs in the first inning.
• Elon would threaten with a number of hard-hit balls, but quick ECU fielding would prevent the Phoenix from reaching base. ECU added a run in the bottom of the second to take a four-run lead.
• Tanner Holliman would draw a walk, but Elon could not advance the senior.
• ECU opened the flood gates in the bottom of the third with seven runs on three home runs to pull ahead by double digits.
• Elon would continue to pound the ball, but to no avail in getting runners home.
• ECU added a run in the fourth before being shut down by Christo Garrelts in the fifth and sixth innings.
• The Phoenix failed to mount a comeback effort in the seventh and the game was called early in favor of the Pirates.

 
NOTES AND STATS

• Hudson Narke got the start for the Phoenix. Narke finished the game with one strikeout and one earned run given up.
• Itai Spinoza made an appearance out of the bullpen and struck out one batter.
• Liam Dabagian threw 1.1 innings and struck out one batter and allowed just one hit.
• Christo Garrelts threw two innings of scoreless relief. Garrelts did not allow a hit to the Pirates.
• Ryan Sprock, Connor Offshack, Tanner Holliman and Tank Yaghoubi all reached with a walk against the Pirates.

• The Phoenix will begin an eight-game homestand this Friday as Elon welcomes Hofstra for a CAA weekend series. First pitch with the Pride will be at 6 pm.
