RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore
Mauri Murray of the Elon University softball team was named the CAA Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, May 6.
Murray helped the Phoenix to a series sweep over Drexel this past weekend as the Marvin, N.C., native batted .700 (7-of-10) with six RBI, a home run and a triple to her stat line. In addition, Murray notched two multi-hit efforts and drove in multiple runs in two games. In the series opener, she went 4-for-4 – a career-high for hits – with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. In game two, Murray went 1-for-3 with a homer and walk, scoring two runs and driving in a pair before a 2-for-3 effort in the series finale with two runs scored and one RBI.
This is the first career CAA Player of the Week honor for Murray. She becomes the second Phoenix player to earn league weekly accolades this season.
Kaitlyn Wells was named the Player of the Week on Feb. 13.
The Phoenix opens play at the 2024 CAA Softball Championships on Wednesday, May 8 as No. 5 seed Elon will take on host and fourth-seeded UNCW at noon.
