"Seven captains is a big number and is more of an NFL model," Trisciani said, "but it fits our team this year. We have a seventh-year, two sixth-year, two fifth-year and two fourth-year seniors among our captains. They are great representatives of Elon University and of our football program."
Along with leadership off the field, Elon's seven captains have been leaders on the field throughout their careers.
Brayboy is a senior wide receiver who has also proven to be a dynamic kick returner and was named one of the ten most explosive players in FCS Football earlier this summer. Burkett is a senior offensive lineman who has started 32 games in his career. Curtain is a junior safety who was a second team All-American a year ago after leading Elon in tackles (80) and interceptions (4). Downing, a seventh-year senior quarterback, is in his second year guiding the offense at Elon and showed all-conference potential throughout the final half of the 2023 season.
Johnson is a senior defensive lineman who has started 19 games over the past two seasons and 21 for his career. Williams is a former third team all-conference player and Freshman All-American who has started 36 career games. The senior has played multiple positions on the offensive line but settled in at center in 2023. Tucker is a redshirt junior defensive back who has been limited over the past two seasons due to injury, but has been an impact player any time he is on the field. In 2021, he had two forced fumbles and returned a fumble 43 yards for a touchdown.
"Being a team captain is an honor and a privilege that comes with great responsibility," Trisciani said. "They are stabilizing forces who give their all to the team and who aren't afraid to take a tough stance when it comes to maintaining the standards and expectations of our football program. Our team captains, though, are also talented athletes who have the ability to elevate the level of play around them with their competitiveness and winning habits."
