Mitch Stewart Named Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach

Elon, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis first-year Head Coach Maciek Sykut has named Mitch Stewart an assistant coach for the program. Stewart most recently served as an assistant coach at The University of Denver and brings both Power Five coaching and playing experience to Elon.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Mitch to our coaching staff," Sykut said. "His wealth of experience, infectious energy and passion for the game will ignite our team and propel our student-athletes to new heights. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact he will undoubtedly bring to our program."

Most recently, Stewart made his second stint at Denver, spending a year as an assistant coach. The program went 23-1, including a 5-0 mark in the Summit League, and won the Summit League Tournament Championship in convincing 4-0 fashion over Drake. Throughout an undefeated regular season, Denver posted victories over Oregon, Purdue, Wisconsin, Utah, New Mexico and Boise State.

Prior to that, Stewart was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Washington, where he helped the program reach as high as No. 38 in the ITA rankings with victories over Cal, Utah, Oregon and Stanford.

Stewart was also an assistant coach at Denver for the 2021-22 season and he helped the Pioneers to a 15-7 record and a trip to the Summit League Tournament Championship. Denver was ranked as high as No. 45 in the national ITA rankings during the season.

In the 2020-21 season, Stewart began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Arizona, helping the program to its first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in program history. The team earned its highest national ranking (No. 15) and best Pac-12 finish (second place) in Arizona history as well.

Stewart is a 2018 graduate of the University of Washington, where he was a standout player. He was four-time second team All Pac-12, never playing below the No. 2 singles line in his career. As a senior, Stewart earned the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award for the Northwest Region.
