Conway, S.C.- The Elon Phoenix looks to continue their winning ways and their third straight victory Thursday night when they hit the road to take on Coastal Carolina. This will be Elon's first road contest of the season after hosting their first two games of the 2024 campaign.
Elon looks to continue their hot start following a 5-0 win over Radford on Monday night.
Victor Stromsten led the way, bagging a hat trick against the Highlanders for his first career three-goal night.

- This will be the 16th matchup all-time between the Phoenix and the Chanticleers.
- Elon trails the all-time series with Coastal 2-11-2.
- The last matchup between the two schools came in 2014 with Coastal Carolina coming out on top 1-0.
- Elon's last win against the Chanticleers came in 2013 when Coastal Carolina was ranked sixth in the nation. Elon prevailed 2-1 at Rudd Field.
Last Time Out
- Victor Stromsten led a historic start to the match against Radford this past Monday. August Guinle found Colin Veltri near the top of the box, and with a flick of his boot he found Stromsten who buried the finish in the bottom left-hand corner.
- Moments later, winger Jordin Wilson found Stromsten again in the box. After a scramble for the ball, Stromsten found the next again to give Elon a 2-0 inside 75 seconds.
- Tomasz Wroblewski was challenged at the net twice in the first half and made an outstanding save in the 20th minute to preserve the two-goal advantage.
- The Phoenix continued to pour on the pressure in the first half with 11 more shots in the first half, but none finding the back of the net.
- Elon once again found their scoring touch in the final third with their first goal from a set piece on the season. Sophomore Charlie Kitch rose up to find a Scott Vatne cross from a corner kick to head home Elon's third goal and put the game beyond all doubt.
- Stromsten would seal his hat trick in the 70th minute with another assist from Veltri to put the Phoenix ahead by four goals.
- Connor Mucchetti capped off the night with a goal of his own, his first as a Phoenix. Stromsten set him up in the box before a right-footed shot found the center of the goal to secure the five-goal game for the Phoenix.
- The Highlanders nearly found the back of the net, but a heads up play from Nicholas Mackinnon to back up Wroblewski kept the Highlander goal tally at nil.
- Elon saw the rest of the match through with a a number of freshmen seeing their first action of their Elon careers. The reserves helped push Elon over the edge 5-0 winners over Radford.
Preseason Praise
- Senior Scott Vatne and graduate Victor Stromsten were both selected to the All-CAA preseason team while junior Majaliwa Msabaha was an honorable mention. Stromsten makes his first appearance on an All-CAA preseason list following his 13-point season in 2023.
- Vatne makes his second straight appearance on the All-CAA preseason team while Msabaha is featured for a second time on the honorable mention list.
- Stromsten returns to the Phoenix for his fifth season at Elon. The forward came on strong at the end of the season up top for the Phoenix, scoring four goals in his final six conference games. Stromsten saw the Phoenix through to the CAA semifinals with a game-winning goal over the number three seeded Stony Brook Sea Wolves.
- Vatne enters his senior season having amassed a list of preseason and post-season honors over the last year. Following an All-CAA First Team and All-Atlantic Region season in 2023, Vatne returns to the midfield following a 12-point season and leading the Phoenix in assists with four.
- Msabaha makes his second honorable mention side after back-to-back All-CAA Third Team selections. The junior captain led the Phoenix last season in the midfield, making 16 starts in 17 games and picking up an assist in Elon's CAA quarterfinal win.
TopDrawer Top 100
- Elon has been laced with preseason honors to several players with Scott Vatne and Tomasz Wroblewski being named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top 100 players list.
- The Phoenix were the lone club in the CAA with multiple players on the Top 100 list with Hofstra being the only other CAA school with a player mentioned.
- This was the first time Elon had two players listed on the preseason list since Elon joined the CAA ten years ago.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
- The Chanticleers were picked ninth in the Sun Belt Preseason poll behind perennial soccer powers, Marshall and West Virginia. Marshall was picked to finish first while West Virginia was picked second following their College Cup semifinal appearance last season.
- Coastal enters the matchup with Elon 0-2 after facing CAA opponent College of Charleston and falling to UNC Greensboro last Sunday.
- In their most recent match, Coastal fell to #18 UNCG 1-0 last Sunday.
- Kaito Ueki and Deryn Armstrong both netted goals against Charleston in the 4-2 loss to the Cougars.
- Defenders Welnilton Da Silva Jr. and Pierson Davis have both played all 90 minutes in the two matches this season.
- Shaun Docking is in his 27th season at Coastal Carolina and 29th season as a head coach overall. His record at Coastal Carolina is 309-159-53 and won double digit games in ten consecutive seasons from 2010-19.
From Queens to Elon
- Head Coach Marc Reeves spent over a decade at St. John's as both a player and a coach for the Red Storm and now has brought some ammunition from the transfer portal.
- Colin Veltri, Connor Mucchetti, and Charlie Kitch all join the Phoenix after playing for the Red Storm last season.
- The trio combined for six points in Elon's win over Radford with both Mucchetti and Kitch scoring their first goals for the Phoenix. Veltri contributed with a pair of assists to bring his season tally to three.
- Veltri and Kitch both collected an assist on Scott Vatne's game-winning goal against Florida Gulf Coast.
- Both Veltri and Mucchetti joined the Phoenix in the spring with Kitch joining Elon this fall.
