Yurk, who returned to Elon for the 2024 season after transferring following the 2022 campaign, made his presence felt immediately. He bombed a 58-yard punt to end Elon's first drive of the game and then had a 60-yarder later in the first quarter.
Yurk added two more punts of at least 55 yards during the game and dropped three of his seven punts inside the 20. His 51.9 yard per punt average is No. 1 in FCS by more than a yard and ranks No. 2 in the country among all divisions. Only Texas A&M's Tyler White finished week one with a higher average at 54.0 yards per punt.
Following Friday's 26-3 loss to Duke, Elon will begin its FCS schedule by returning to Durham Saturday. The Phoenix will square off with North Carolina Central, a 31-24 winner over Alabama State Sunday, at 6:00 p.m.
