ELON, N.C. – Elon University football standouts
Chandler Brayboy and
Matthew Downing will cap off their stellar collegiate careers Saturday by showcasing their talents in the 2025 Hula Bowl. The game, which features top collegiate players from across the country, will take place at UCF's FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Fla., with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Brayboy, a versatile wide receiver for the Phoenix, was a key playmaker during the 2024 season both on offense and as a kick returner. Brayboy was named a first team All-American by Stats Perform, the AFCA and Phil Steele and a second team All-American by the Associated Press and FCS Football Central. Phil Steele named Brayboy the FCS Special Teams Player of the Year and he was also named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Year.
Downing, the Phoenix's dynamic quarterback, emerged as a leader both on and off the field in his two years at Elon. He ranked among the top 20 FCS quarterbacks in passing efficiency (154.9), yards per completion (14.2) and yards per pass attempt (8.8). In Elon's four-game win streak to conclude the 2024 season, he averaged 267.0 yards passing with 10 touchdowns and only one interception.
The Hula Bowl, now in its 78th year, provides NFL, CFL, and USFL scouts a chance to evaluate some of the most talented players in college football. Both Brayboy and Downing will look to impress the professional scouts in attendance as they pursue their dreams of playing at the next level. They join Chad Nkang in 2007 as the only Elon players to compete in the Hula Bowl. Nkang earned Hula Bowl Team MVP honors.
Fans can tune in to the Hula Bowl on CBS Sports Network to watch Brayboy and Downing in action as they represent Elon and the Coastal Athletic Association on the national stage.
