Elon Falls To Wake Forest Sunday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Following a 3-0 start to the spring season, the Elon University women's tennis team was handed its first defeat in a 7-0 loss at Wake Forest Sunday afternoon. Wake Forest improves to 5-1 with the win and Elon falls to 3-1 with the loss. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In doubles, Elon's No. 1 team of Helen Sarikulaya and Miray Konar trailed 4-3 before the match was left unfinished as Wake Forest clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. 
  • Elon battled in singles play, but Wake Forest was able to earn a sweep of the six matches. Heidi Bulger forced a third set at No. 3 singles before eventually falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. 
  • Sarikulaya pushed her opponent at No. 2 singles before losing 6-4, 6-2. 
  • Mariana Reding was highly competitive at No. 4 singles, losing 6-4, 6-3. 
  • Lisa Kranec battled at No. 6 singles before falling in defeat 6-4, 6-1. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Elon has almost two weeks off before hosting Belmont-Abbey on Saturday, Feb. 8. The teams will play twice with matches at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
