Elon, N.C. - The Elon women's tennis team secured two victories on Saturday in a doubleheader versus Belmont Abbey at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The dominant victories helped the Phoenix improve to 5-1 on the season, while Belmont Abbey dropped to 5-2.
MATCH 1:
Doubles Recap: Elon secured the doubles point, sweeping the floor clean in all three matches.
Singles Recap: Elon did not let up, keeping the foot on the gas to win all six matches.
- At No. 1, Simone Bergeron faced Hendricks with 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the victory.
- At No. 2, team captain Helen Sarikulaya finished second as she cruised past Riner in a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
- At No. 3, freshman Heidi Bulger fought it out to secure a win of 6-1, 7-5 against McCarthy.
- At No. 4, Madison Cordisco set the tone as she showed off her skills, finishing first with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Burkhalter.
- No. 5 saw freshman Lisa Kranec dominate the court, winning 6-1, 6-2 against Collyer.
- No. 6 saw senior Miray Konar take down Simonov 6-4, 6-2 to finish part one of the doubleheader.
MATCH 2:
Doubles Recap: Elon came out strong, ready to sweep the floor again, winning all three matches.
- At No. 1, Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya came ready to play, claiming their second pair win of the day with a 6-2 victory over Elizabeth Vollmin and Leilany Sanchez.
- At No. 2, Simone Bergeron and Ella Suk put in the effort, winning 6-2 over Frankee Hendricks and Katharine Calvet.
- At No. 3, Heidi Bulger and Madison Cordisco wasted no time, clinching a win of 6-1 against Elona Simonov and Lily Aranyos.
Singles Recap: Elon knew what they had to do, and they once more swept all six matches.
- At No. 1, Simone Bergeron got her second singles win of the day, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Riner.
- At No. 2, Helen Sarikulaya closed out the day, claiming victory over Simonov 6-2, 6-2.
- No. 3 saw Heidi Bulger take the court, outlasting Sanchez and getting the win 6-1, 6-1.
- At No. 4, Lisa Kranec put her skills on display, defeating Aranyos 6-1, 6-0.
- At No. 5, Miray Konar did what she does best, clinching the win and taking down Vollmin 6-0, 6-1.
- At No. 6, Ella Suk took care of business, finishing first and defeating Calvet 6-0, 6-1.
Up next: After their full day of domination, Elon prepares to keep the momentum for their match on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at home against Charlotte. The 49ers are 6-2 on the season with their only losses being to No. 1 Georgia and their most recent match versus Clemson, where they were defeated 4-3.
