SETTING THE STAGE
  • Elon and Towson will meet for the 12th time overall and the ninth time as CAA opponents on Saturday.
  • The two last met in 2022 when Elon bested the Tigers 27-10 at Rhodes Stadium. Phoenix quarterback Matthew McKay threw for 312 yards and rushed for a score in the win.
  • The Phoenix is 3-0 against Towson under head coach Tony Trisciani.
  • Towson enters the matchup with a 3-2 (1-0 CAA) record. The Tigers earned their first CAA victory of the year with a 26-24 win over Bryant last Saturday.
  • Pete Schinnick is 15-13 in his third season at the helm of the Tigers.

A Smooth Landen
  • Quarterback Landen Clark has already been named CAA Rookie of the Week twice this season, most recently for his performance against Western Carolina in week three. Clark is the first Elon quarterback to earn the honor twice since Davis Cheek in 2017.
  • Clark continues to be a threat through the air and on the ground. In the win over Hampton, Clark passed and rushed for a score. Clark is second in the CAA with five rushing touchdowns through five games played.
  • The redshirt freshman has thrown multiple touchdown passes in three games this season and has eight total.
  • In Elon's home opener against Davidson, he passed for a career-high 305 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two more touchdowns in the win.
  • Clark ranks third among FCS quarterbackers in passing yards per completion (17.13) and is 19th in total passing yards (1,045).
  • Clark was one of the most prolific high school quarterbacks in the history of southwestern Virginia. Under coach Michael Crist at Radford High School, Clark led the Bobcats to a 15-0 record and the first state title for the school in 51 years.  He finished his senior season with more than 4,300 total yards and 71 total touchdowns, in addition to playing free safety on defense and punting on special teams.

CAA Success

  • The Phoenix has become accustomed to out-performing its CAA preseason expectations the past four seasons.
  • Elon has won five straight CAA games dating back to last season and has scored 30 points ore more in five of its past six league contests.
  • The Phoenix has a combined record of 22-10 in CAA play since 2021. Elon ranks second among active members in both CAA wins and winning percentage over the last four seasons.
  • Elon finished their 2024 season on a four-game winning streak in conference play and averaged 38 points per game during that stretch, despite averaging less than 20 in the eight games prior.
  • Rhodes Stadium has become one of the toughest places to play in the CAA. Over the last 15 conference home games, the Phoenix is 12-3. Elon has lost just twice at home in CAA play over the last three seasons and went unbeaten in conference games at Rhodes Stadium in both 2022 and 2023.

Big Men On Campus
  • The interior of the Phoenix defensive line – fifth year senior starters Jake Louro and Parris Lowery – is tried, tested and has been in opposing backfields for a combined 10 years at Elon.
  • The pair had a field day in the opposing backfield during last weeks' win over Hampton, combining for 16 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. Each Phoenix had eight tackles apiece, a career best for both players.
  • Both arrived at Elon for the 2021 fall season and redshirted. Together, they have appeared in 78 games and started 28 games combined over the past four seasons.
