ELON – The Elon University men's soccer team (6-2-5, 3-0-2 CAA) plays it first of two straight road matches Saturday at College of Charleston (4-8-2, 1-3-1 CAA). It will be the second meeting between the CAA South rivals this year.

The Charleston Series
- Saturday will be the 28th all-time meeting between the Phoenix and Cougars.
- Elon took a slight 13-12-2 edge in the head-to-head earlier this season. The Phoenix has won the last seven meetings between the conference opponents, a streak that began in 2018, and is 8-1-2 in the last 11 matchups.
- Elon defeated the Cougars on Sept. 6 at Rudd, 1-0. Dominik Renz scored the game's only goal in the second half on an assist from Colin Veltri. Jackson Leavitt posted a shutout in goal, making three saves for the Phoenix.
- The Phoenix is 6-7-1 all-time in matches played at Charleston. Elon has won its last three trips to Patriots Point, most recently in 2023 when the Phoenix earned a 2-0 victory behind goals from Franc Gamiz Quer and Luca Erhardt.
Charleston Rematch
- The Phoenix defeated the Cougars on Sept. 6 at Rudd Field, 1-0, to move to 2-0-0 in CAA play.
- Renz scored his second game-winning goal of the season in the 61st minute on a feed from Veltri. He went on to win CAA Rookie of the Week on Sept. 8.
- Veltri's assist was his first point of the campaign. He led the Phoenix with four shot attempts in 76 minutes of action.
- The Phoenix outshot the Cougars, 12-9, on the day. Both teams recorded three shots on target. Martin Kozak (2) and Magnus Jacobsen (2) joined Veltri with multiple shot attempts.
- Four position players went the full 90 minutes for Elon – August Guinle, Carlos Levy, Majaliwa Msabaha and Jacobsen.
- Leavitt's shutout was his third of the campaign.
Last Time Out
- A late goal propelled Elon to a crucial 1-0 victory over UNCW on Saturday at Rudd Field.
- Charlie Kitch scored on a header off a corner kick from Kozak with exactly four minutes remaining in the contest. He beat UNCW's goalie with a shot toward the far post for the lone goal of the night.
- Kitch's goal was his first of the season after scoring a pair a season ago. The marker was Elon's second latest goal in a match on the season.
- Sumner Nenninger, Kozak and Weston Jonke each attempted two shots to lead the Phoenix. Both of Nenninger's shots were on target.
- The clean sheet was Elon's eighth of the season and first since Sept. 30 against UNCG.
- Seven of Elon's 10 starting field players went the full distance – Msabaha, Connor Mucchetti, Renz, Oscar Tonidandel, Jonke, Kozak and Jacobsen.
- The win completed a two-match regular season sweep of UNCW for the Phoenix. Elon previously defeated the Seahawks, 2-1, in the conference opener for both teams on Aug. 30 at Wilmington.
CAA Success
- Elon currently sits atop the CAA South division with 11 points after going 3-0-2 in in its first five conference clashes. Campbell is also at the top of the table with 11 points.
- The Phoenix is five points clear of UNCW, who sits alone in third place in the standings.
- Elon defeated the Seahawks, 2-1, in the first conference match for both teams on Aug. 29. The Phoenix then knocked off College of Charleston on Sept. 6 at Rudd, 1-0.
- After ties against William & Mary and Campbell, Elon blanked UNCW, 1-0, on Oct. 11 for its third conference victory.
- The Phoenix is unbeaten in its last seven regular season conference matches.
- Elon's final three games are against CAA South opponents, all of which are regular season rematches.
Defense, Defense, Defense
- Elon has allowed just five goals through its first 13 matches. The Phoenix has posted eight clean sheets on the season, including a stretch of four in a row that came to an end on Sept. 20 at William & Mary.
- The Phoenix leads the CAA and is tied for No. 3 nationally in goals against average (0.39). Elon has allowed six fewer goals than the next best CAA team.
- Leavitt has played every minute in goal this season for the Phoenix. He has made 34 saves and ranks No. 6 nationally in save percentage (.872) as well as No. 5 in goals against average (.39).
- The Phoenix has yet to allow a goal in seven matches at Rudd this season, with seven of the eight seven clean sheets coming at home.
- Elon ranks in the top 10 in the country in shutout percentage (.615).
- Msabaha has logged all 1,170 minutes for Elon this season. Mucchetti (1,081), Jonke (1,070) and Levy have also surpassed 1,000 minutes on the season.
- Elon has allowed just four of its first 13 opponents to reach double digit shot attempts in a game.
- On Monday, Kitch earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week, becoming the second Elon player to earn the honor this season along with Leavitt, who was won the award twice. Kitch scored the game-winning goal for Elon against UNCW after logging the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at No. 7 Duke in the Phoenix's midweek contest.
Renz The Rookie
- Renz has quickly emerged as one of Elon's top offensive producers in his debut campaign with the Phoenix.
- The redshirt sophomore is second on the team lead with seven points (3g, 1a) and had a four-game point streak earlier this season.
- All three of Renz's goals this season have been game-winning tallies, including two against CAA opponents UNCW and College of Charleston. He ranks No. 2 in the conference in game-winning goals, trailing only Hofstra's Laurie Goddard (4).
- Renz took home back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 1 and Sept. 8, becoming the first Elon player to win the weekly honor twice in a season since Scott Vatne in 2021.
- Renz has made nine consecutive starts for the Phoenix and has played 65-plus minutes in 10 of the last 11 matches, including the full 90 against UNCW on Saturday.
Kozak Contributing
- Kozak is pacing the Phoenix with eight points this season (2g, 4a). He has contributed to three Elon's last five goals.
- Kozak leads the Phoenix with four assists through the first 13 games this season, all of which he has started.
- The junior has the most points for the Phoenix in CAA play (5).
- Kozak is one of three Elon players, along with Mucchetti and Colin Veltri, with multiple assists on the season and has contributed on six of Elon's 11 goals as a team.
- Kozak is tied for the fifth most assists among CAA players, trailing only Monmouth's Jakob Friedman (8), Stony Brook's Alex Fleury (7), Drexel's Morgan Worsfold-Gregg (5) and Hofstra's Stefano Campisi (5).
Defending Regular Season Champs
- Elon is coming off its second regular season CAA title in the last three seasons after topping the league table in 2024 with a 6-2 conference mark.
- Needing a victory in the regular season finale against Campbell to clinch the regular season crown, Elon came away with a 2-1 road victory behind goals from Scott Vatne and Mucchetti.
- The Phoenix finished last season with a 10-7-1 overall record. As the top seed in the CAA Championship, Elon hosted a semifinal match against No. 4 seeded Hofstra, losing 2-0 to the eventual conference champions.
- Elon went its first eight matches without a defeat and rose to as high as No. 10 in the national rankings. During that stretch, the Phoenix won its first five games by a combined score of 14-2, staged a 3-0 road comeback to defeat Delaware 4-3 and drew on the road against ACC opponent Wake Forest.
- Vatne earned CAA Player of the Year after notching 10 goals and seven assists to lead the Phoenix in both categories. He became Elon's first conference player of the year since Daniel Lovitz took home the award for the SoCon in 2013.
- Victor Stromsten, Tomasz Wroblewski, Charlie Kitch and Veltri also earned All-CAA recognition, with all four earning a spot on the second team.
- Additionally, head coach Marc Reeves took home CAA Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons after also winning the award in 2022.
New Look CAA Soccer
- Starting in 2025, the CAA will feature two divisions for men's soccer – a North and South Division.
- Elon is part of the South Division alongside Campbell, College of Charleston, UNCW and William & Mary.
- The Phoenix will face the other four South Division teams twice during the regular season, with one game at home and one on the road.
- At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the CAA Championship. The top seed in each division will receive a bye to the semifinals while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the North and South will clash in the quarterfinals.
Scouting College of Charleston
- The Cougars enter Saturday with a 4-8-2 record on the season and a 1-3-1 mark in conference play.
- Charleston is currently fourth in the CAA South standings, two points behind UNCW for third place.
- On Tuesday, Charleston tied Winthrop, 1-1, in its final nonconference match of the season. The Cougars lost to Campbell, 3-2, in their most recent CAA contest.
- The Cougars have two wins over ranked opponents this season. They defeated No. 15 North Carolina on Sept. 1 and No. 15 Furman on Sept. 16.
- Ben Bagshaw leads the Cougars with five goals and 12 points this season. He is No. 5 in the CAA in points and tied for No. 3 in goals.
- Matt Lenert (4), Pavel Dashin (3) and Lennon Gill (2) also have multiple goals for the Cougars on the season.
- Dashin, Stian Bendvold and Ezra White all have three assists to lead the Cougars.
- Noah Gold and Lenert are the only Cougars to start all 14 matches this season. Gold leads Charleston with 1,201 minutes played.
- Jourdan Schumacher has made 12 starts in goal for the Cougars this season. He has made 40 saves and holds a .678 save percentage.
- Keith Wiggans is in his sixth season as Charleston's head coach.
