CARY, N.C. – Senior
Veljko Krstic advanced to the singles quarterfinals at ITA Carolina Regionals on Saturday as the Elon University men's tennis team continued play on day three at the tournament, which is being contested at the Cary Tennis Park.
Krstic continued his impressive run in the main singles draw, upsetting the tournament's No. 2 overall seed. Elon's senior defeated Clemson's Noa Vukadin 7-6 (5), 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals at Regionals for the first time in his career. Vukadin was the No. 25 ranked player in the ITA's preseason singles rankings.
Krstic has now beaten ACC opponents in two of his three wins in the event after defeating North Carolina's Niels Ratiu on Friday. The senior has won six straight singles matches and is 7-2 overall this fall. He is unbeaten in singles over the last two events.
Elon added another win against ACC opposition in the main doubles draw, as
Jack Curtis and
Sibby Rodi knocked off the North Carolina duo of Roan Jones and Anthony Wright, 8-7 (5). The duo fell against Charlotte's pairing of Massimo Pizzigoni and Emilio Sanchez in the round of 16 in their second match of the day.
Krstic will play in the singles quarterfinals Sunday morning. He will face South Carolina's Lucas Andrade da Silva at 9 a.m.
