RICHMOND, Va. – Elon redshirt junior
Katie Blount was named the Coastal Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time in a three-week span on Tuesday.
Blount spent last Friday rewriting Elon's record book yet again, breaking the women's 6K school record with a blistering time of 19:37.1 at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She shattered the former school record of 20:02.9 – set by Leandra Lorenz in 2022 – by more than 25 seconds and finished runner-up among more than 350 Division I runners in the 6K race. Blount was less than three seconds behind the Paul Short Run race winner and helped Elon place 10th overall.
The Atlanta native collected her first CAA Runner of the Week accolade on Sept. 23 after breaking Elon's 5K school record in 16:41.4 to take eighth place at the adidas XC Challenge in Cary four days prior.
Both record-breaking runs by Blount – a two-time All-CAA runner in 2022 and 2023 – come after she took off the 2024 season to redshirt.
