Howard Edges Phoenix At Home

Elon Falls 56-46 To The Bison

Box Score ELON – The Elon women's basketball team stayed competitive throughout but ultimately fell short in a 56-46 loss to Howard at Schar Center on Saturday night. LaNae' Corbett scored in double figures for the third straight game with a team-high 11 points to lead the Phoenix offensively in a contest in which neither team shot better than 40% from the floor.

Elon dropped to 2-2 on the season while Howard improved to 4-0.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Howard jumped out to a 7-2 lead and eventually pushed it to 11-4. Elon responded with defensive pressure and key second-chance points, capped by Tyana Walker's late 3-pointer with 1:13 left in the frame that pulled the game even at 15 after one quarter.
  • Elon took a 20-19 lead with 7:41 remaining in the half thanks to a 3-pointer by Kamryn Doty and defensive stops. The Bison came back to take a 26-22 lead before a last-second floater from Maraja Pass cut the Phoenix deficit to 26-24.
  • The teams traded baskets to open the second half, with Elon holding a 31-30 advantage after back-to-back buckets from Ashanti Fox. Howard countered with an 8-0 run to lead 38-31 with 2:25 remaining and eventually ended the quarter up 41-32.
  • Elon cut into Howard's lead with eight of the first 12 points in the fourth quarter – including a pair of 3-pointers by Walker – and trailed by five, 45-40, with 6:41 to go. The teams traded baskets from there, with the Phoenix unable to make up enough ground to pull off the victory.
