RICHMOND, Va. – Elon freshman
Tamia Watkins was named CAA Rookie of the Week following a strong three-game week, the conference announced on Monday.
Watkins averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game during the Phoenix's 1-2 week at Georgetown and the Paradise Jam. She posted six points, two rebounds, and an assist in 13 minutes at Georgetown before adding six points on 3-of-5 shooting and three boards against Tulane in the Paradise Jam opener. Watkins capped the tournament with her best outing of the week, leading Elon with 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds against North Dakota.
Watkins ranks second on the team in rebounding (4.6 RPG) and is shooting 42.9% (21-for-49) from the field for the season.
The recognition continues Elon's strong tradition of standout newcomers, as the Phoenix earned five CAA Rookie of the Week honors last season.
Watkins and the Phoenix will face East Carolina on the road Sunday.
