Phoenix Fight Back In Close Loss At UNCG

Fulmore Leads Phoenix In 54-50 Loss To Spartans

Box Score GREENSBORO – The Elon University women's basketball team fell in another close battle, 54-50, at UNCG on Wednesday night.

Quinzia Fulmore led the team for the second time this season with 12 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and sinking a career-high six free throws.

Elon drops to 3–7, while UNCG improves to 7–5.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The teams traded baskets early before UNCG used second-chance opportunities to take a 12-8 lead after the first quarter.
  • The Spartans opened the second quarter on a 10-3 run to go up 22-11, but Elon answered with a 7-0 run sparked by freshmen Ashanti Fox and Tamia Watkins, cutting the deficit to 22-18 before the Spartans scored again to take a 24-18 lead into halftime.
  • UNCG opened the third quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 35-18 lead with 7:25 remaining, but Elon responded with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 35-25. The teams traded baskets before the Phoenix closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, narrowing the gap to five at 39-34.
  • After trading baskets in the fourth, Elon got within two with 2:21 left, but UNCG's second-chance jumper extended their lead to 52-47. Quinzia Fulmore's and-one brought Elon back within two, yet late free throws gave the Spartans a 54-50 victory.
NOTES
  • Elon held UNCG to 0% (0-for-11) from three-point range in the first half.
  • Quinzia Fulmore led the team with 12 points and added three rebounds.
  • LaNae' Corbett led the team on the boards for the second time this season with six, followed by Laila Anderson with a season-high five rebounds.
  • Corbett matched her career-high in steals with four, while Anderson and Ashlee Shaw added three apiece.
  • Ashanti Fox and Tyana Walker each recorded two blocks, a career-high for Fox and a matched career-high for Walker.
  • For the third straight game, Elon held opponents below 25% from three-point range, allowing UNCG to just 11.1% (2-for-18) from deep.
  • The Phoenix starting lineup featured LaNae' Corbett, Quinzia Fulmore, Maraja Pass, Ashlee Shaw, and Tyana Walker.
