Phoenix Powers Past Norfolk State

Strong Post Presence Lifts Phoenix To Victory

ELON – The Elon women's basketball team showcased dominance on both ends of the floor en route to a 58-41 win over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon at the Schar Center. The Phoenix snapped a three-game losing streak in the process and improved to 4-7 overall.
 
LaNae' Corbett and Tyana Walker each poured in a team-high 14 points, while Quinzia Fulmore pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
Norfolk State dropped to 5-10 with the loss.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon opened the game on a 9-0 run and pushed the lead to 13-2 midway through the first quarter before the Spartans responded with an 8-1 run to cut the deficit to 14-10 at the end of the period.
  • The teams went back and forth throughout the second quarter with Norfolk State tying the game at 18-18 and later taking a 29-28 lead into halftime.
  • Elon used another 9-0 run to start the third quarter and build its lead to 37-29. After Norfolk State closed within two, back-to-back threes from Ruby Willard and Maraja Pass pushed the Phoenix ahead 43-35 entering the final quarter.
  • The Phoenix left no doubt in the final quarter, using another dominant opening run of 12 points to extend its lead to 55-35, and ultimately a 58-41 victory.
NOTES
  • Quinzia Fulmore recorded double-figure rebounds for the second time this season and led the team with 10.
  • Six different Elon players made at least one three-pointer, with Tyana Walker leading the team with a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc.
  • Maraja Pass led the team in assists with her fifth game of five dimes.
  • Corbett and Walker both shot 50% from the field on the way to their 14-point efforts.
  • The Phoenix dominated the boards, outrebounding the Spartans 47-25 overall and 18-10 on the offensive glass. This is the eighth time this season Elon has controlled the offensive boards.
  • All 11 Phoenix players who saw action scored.
  • The Phoenix returned the same starters: LaNae' Corbett, Quinzia Fulmore, Maraja Pass, Ashlee Shaw, and Tyana Walker
