Charlotte, N.C. - The Elon men's tennis team fell 5-2 against the Charlotte 49ers Friday afternoon. After failing to secure the doubles point, the Phoenix fought through singles, winning two matches and forcing a third set at two others. Charlotte improves to 4-4 on the season with the win as Elon drops to 0-4.

Doubles Play:
Charlotte was able to clinch the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spot:

• No. 1 Doubles: Elon's duo of Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic were defeated by Charlotte's Matias Iturbe and Vasco Prata 6-2. 
• No. 2 Doubles: Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis were down 5-3 when doubles were called.
• No. 3 Doubles: Charles Pilet and Alonso Roca fell 6-3 to Brett Gloria and Arsene Pougault. 

Singles Play:
Charlotte held off a charging Elon team in singles, securing four victories despite a strong rally from the Phoenix.
 

• No. 1 Singles: Veljko Krstic forced a third set with a 6-2 victory in the second, but fell to Vasco Prata 6-1, 2-6, 6-2
• No. 2 Singles: Rafael Ymer picked up his first career straight set singles win, beating Matias Iturbe 7-5, 6-1
• No. 3 Singles: Oskar Antinheimo opened with a 6-3 first set win, but Ivan Dreycopp rallied to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-3
• No. 4 Singles: Jack Curtis improved to a team-best 2-1 in singles play this spring with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win over Arsene Pougault. It was his first match of the season playing at No. 4 after playing No. 5 singles in each of the first three matches.
• No. 5 Singles: Charles Pilet fell to Frederic Schlossmann 6-3, 7-5
• No. 6 Singles: Charlotte's Brett Gloria earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alonso Roca.

The Phoenix will be back at home Friday, where they will host ETSU at 2:00 p.m. in the second home match of the season.
