Maciek Sykut Gets First Win As Elon Men's Tennis Beats ETSU

Greensboro, N.C. - Elon University's Maciek Sykut earned his first collegiate win as a head coach as the Elon men's tennis team defeated ETSU Friday afternoon, 4-3, at Piedmont Indoor Tennis. ETSU earned the doubles point but Elon rebounded by winning four of the six singles matches to get the victory.

Elon improves to 1-4 on the season and ETSU falls to 1-4 with the loss.

Doubles Play: ETSU was able to clinch the doubles point after winning a close match in the No. 2 spot, 6-4 against Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis. 
  • No. 1 Doubles: Elon's duo of Veljko Krstic and Oskar Antinheimo secured the first doubles win of the match against Peter Kalocsai and Martin Garcia-Ripoll, winning 6-4. 
  • No. 2 Doubles: At the number two spot, Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis fell in a close 6-4 match to Francisco Lamas and Juan Andres Listo. 
  • No. 3 Doubles: Charles Pilet and Juan Sengariz fell 6-3 to Pedro Cressoni and James Sim. 

Singles Play: The Phoenix won the first four singles matches to earn the team victory. Veljko Krstic clinched the match at No. 1 singles with a three-set victory, posting a 7-3 tiebreak win in the third set against Peter Kalocsai. 
  • No. 1 Singles: In the No. 1 spot, Veljko Krstic secured the clinching point for the Phoenix, going 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) against Peter Kalocsai. 
  • No. 2 Singles: Rafael Ymer secured the Phoenix's first singles point winning in straight sets against Martin Garcia-Ripoll with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
  • No. 3 Singles: Oskar Antinheimo fell to Pedro Cressoni after two tiebreak sets at 6-7 (4-7) and 7-6 (7-2), followed by an 11-9 super tiebreak third set.
  • No. 4 Singles: Jack Curtis battled through two tiebreaks against Francisco Lamas, pulling out a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) win. 
  • No. 5 Singles: Charles Pilet secured the second singles point of the match, going 6-3 and 7-6 (7-1) against James Sim. 
  • No. 6 Singles: Carlos Gonzalez of ETSU defeated Juan Sengariz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the final match to finish on the afternoon.

The Phoenix will hit the road Sunday, competing against Old Dominion at 2 p.m. The Monarchs enter the match at 5-4 on the season.
