Women’s Basketball Falls At Home to Delaware

ELON, N.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (13-11, 7-6 CAA) fell at home, 60-51, to Delaware (10-14, 7-7 CAA) on Friday night in Schar Center.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon got off to a strong start, taking an 8-3 lead with 5:18 left in the first quarter, highlighted by back-to-back buckets from Ava Leroux and a second-chance jumper from Raven Preston. The Blue Hens responded to tie the game at 8-8 before consecutive baskets from Hannah Dereje and Iycez Adams put Elon back on top, 12-8. The teams continued to trade baskets, with Elon holding a narrow 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Phoenix quickly extended their lead to five at 18-13 before both teams exchanged points. Delaware then went on a 7-0 run to take a 22-20 lead with 6:28 remaining in the second quarter. Elon answered with an 8-0 run of its own to regain a 28-22 advantage, but the Blue Hens closed the quarter on a 4-0 run, bringing the halftime score to 28-26 in favor of the Phoenix.
  • The Blue Hens opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run, taking a 36-30 lead with 4:11 remaining. A three-pointer from Kamryn Doty halted Delaware's momentum, cutting the deficit to three. Elon followed with a 4-1 run to tie the score at 37-37, but Delaware responded with a 9-2 run to close the quarter, leading 46-39 heading into the final frame.
  • Delaware maintained control in the fourth, extending its lead to double digits at 54-42 with an 8-3 run. The Phoenix fought back with an 11-0 run to close within 54-51 with 1:19 remaining, but their comeback fell short as Delaware secured a 60-51 victory.
NOTES
  • Elon maintained its starting lineup with Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Adams and Preston led the team in scoring with 11 points each, followed by Jayda Angel with seven.
  • Preston also paced the team with six rebounds, while Angel recorded a team-high four steals.
  • The Phoenix held the edge in rebounds (32-31), points in the paint (28-20), and steals (12-10).
