Lavelle, Narke Pitches Elon Over Binghamton

Elon, N.C.- The Elon Phoenix (2-5) bounced back for a Sunday win over the Binghamton Bearcats (2-4) Sunday afternoon. Declan Lavelle and Hudson Narke combined to throw all nine innings in the 8-2 win with Lavelle getting the win and Narke earning the save.

With a rotated lineup, the Phoenix belted their first two home runs of the season with Vince Fattore and Alec Welshans going deep. Welshans along with Jackson Alford and Tank Yaghoubi delivered multi-hit games while Fattore and Justin Szestowicki both drove in a pair of runs.

How It Happened
  • For the first time in the series, the Phoenix struck first. In the bottom of the first inning, Jackson Alford led off the Phoenix bats with a triple into the right field corner. Alex Duffey then brought in Alford on a sacrifice fly to give Elon a 1-0 lead.
  • Binghamton answered Elon's run with one of their own before Elon struck again with a solo home run from Vince Fattore.
  • The Bearcats would drive in an unearned run in the top of the third to tie the score.
  • Lavelle continued to roll and retired batters in the fourth and fifth inning without trouble.
  • Elon provided Lavelle with cushion in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs from an Alec Welshans solo home run and an RBI single from Ryan Sprock.
  • The Phoenix put up two more in the sixth on a two-RBI double from Justin Szestowicki to extend the Elon lead to five.
  • A Fattore sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth resulted in another run coming across to score.
  • Hudson Narke would pitch the final three Bearcat frames in just 32 pitches to hold down the lead and deliver an Elon win.

Notes and Stats
  • The Phoenix improves to 2-5 on the season after the Sunday win over Binghamton.

  • Phoenix pitching did not walk a batter for the first time this season and the first time since Elon's 6-1 loss to Towson in 2023.
  • Vince Fattore for the second straight season hit the first Phoenix home run of the season after clubbing a solo home run in the second inning.
  • Alec Welshans hit a solo home run as well for his first Phoenix home run after hitting 15 last season at the JUCO ranks.
