Elon Men's Tennis Heads To Coastal Carolina Friday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team heads  to Coastal Carolina Friday for their fourth road match of the season. The Phoenix (1-5) secured its first win of the season Friday, battling for a 4-3 win over ETSU.

THE MATCH-UP
  • Elon is 10-1 all-time against Coastal Carolina, winning the last five match-ups.
  • The last two matches have resulted in 4-3 Elon wins, including one a year ago.
  • Elon holds a 45-22 record against schools in the Sun Belt Conference. 
  • The Phoenix's last campaign against a Sun Belt school was on Feb. 23, when Elon competed in a road match against Old Dominion University. In the match, the Phoenix fell 7-0.

ABOUT ELON
  • Elon is 1-5 on the season under first-year Head Coach Maciek Sykut. Sykut earned his first win as a collegiate head coach as the Phoenix defeated ETSU 4-3 Friday.
  • Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer each have three singles wins on the season. Curtis is 3-2 playing at No. 4 (2-1) and No. 5 (1-1) singles, while Ymer is 3-3 at No. 1 (0-1) and No. 2 (3-2) singles.
  • In doubles play, Elon is just 2-12 on the season and no individual has more than one win. However, Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic do have a victory playing at the No. 1 doubles spot.
  • Elon will host the CAA Tournament at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center April 25-27. Six CAA teams will compete for the title. At the same time, Elon women will host the CAA Tournament with six teams vying for a championship.


SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
  • Coastal Carolina is currently 3-3 on the season. 
  • In their most recent campaign, the Chanticleers fell 4-3 against UNCG. 
  • Christopher Nolan holds a team-best singles record of 5-1, splitting time between No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
  • Rivers Cahill is 4-2 in doubles, playing all of his matches at the No. 3 spot.
  • The team is led by head coach Chris Powers, the winningest coach in program history. Powers heads into his 21st season as head coach for the Chanticleers, being named head coach in 2004.
