Men's Tennis Secures First Road Win Of The Season At Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Behind dominant doubles play and four singles victories, the Elon University men's tennis team claimed a hard-fought 5-2 victory over Coastal Carolina Friday. 

The Phoenix (2-5) set the tone early by securing the doubles point. Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic delivered a 6-3 win at the No.1 spot, while Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 2. 

Charles Pilet and Juan Sengariz were in a 5-4 battle on Court 3 before the match was left unfinished.

Pilet posted a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory to open the singles scoring for Elon and Krstic picked up a gritty 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 1. Elon held a 3-2 led and clinched the match as Ymer battled back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Antinheimo added the team's fifth point by edging out a three-set thriller by score of 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-6).

Coastal Carolina claimed two singles matches, as Gonzalez Balmaceda outlasted Curtis in three sets and Iannis Fernandes defeated Sengariz in straight sets.

Coastal Carolina drops to 3-4 with the loss with two of those wins coming against CAA foes College of Charleston and Campbell. Elon has now won 2-of-3 matches to improve to 2-5 on the season.

The Phoenix will return to action on March 9 at Campbell at 2:00 p.m.
