Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (13-13, 7-8 CAA) fell on the road to Charleston (20-6, 11-4 CAA) on Friday evening.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Ava Leroux scored the first seven points for Elon, giving the Phoenix a 7-6 lead with 8:25 left in the first quarter. The Cougars answered with back-to-back baskets to go up 10-7 before Raven Preston sank two free throws, cutting the deficit to one. Charleston then closed the quarter on a 15-5 run, taking a 25-14 advantage.
  • The Cougars opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 32-14 before consecutive baskets from Iycez Adams and Alyssa Ervin cut the deficit back to 14. The teams traded baskets until a 9-2 Charleston run pushed the lead to 22 at 46-24. The Phoenix responded with back-to-back buckets to make it 46-28, but a Charleston three-pointer extended the lead again to 49-28. Preston then knocked down a jumper with one second left in the half, sending Elon into the break trailing 49-30.
  • The Cougars outscored the Phoenix 42-21 in the second half to secure a 91-51 victory.
NOTES
  • Elon maintained its starting lineup of Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Alyssa Ervin reached double figures for the second time this season, leading the team with a career-high 12 points.
  • Preston led the Phoenix in rebounds for the 18th time this season, finishing with six boards.
  • Adams recorded a team-high two blocks, while Ervin dished out a career-best three assists.
